Cochrane Railway Station, Sydney
Cochrane Station was the second of three stations on the Ropes Creek railway line in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. History The station was built because of increased passenger numbers and increased production at the St. Marys Munitions Works site along with the arrival of electrification in 1957. The station itself was classed as unattended because most of the workers using the station had weekly tickets or return tickets, making ticket selling facilities unnecessary. The station starts on a slight right-hand bend (looking towards Ropes Creek) and straightens out towards the middle. An overhead road bridge ran over the station; the waiting room was built underneath the bridge. The station was about 165 metres long and could accommodate an eight-car suburban train. References

Cochrane Defense
The rook and bishop versus rook endgame is a chess endgame where one player has just a King (chess), king, a Rook (chess), rook, and a Bishop (chess), bishop, and the other player has just a king and a rook. This combination of is one of the most common pawnless chess endgames. It is generally a theoretical draw, but the rook and bishop have good winning chances in practice because the defense is difficult. Ulf Andersson won the position twice within a year, once against a grandmaster and once against a candidate master; and grandmaster Keith Arkell has won it 18 times out of 18.In 2007 Giddens (page 78) reported 16 out of 16. In positions that have a forced win, up to 59 moves are required. Tony Kosten has seen the endgame many times in chess master, master games, with the stronger side almost always winning. Pal Benko called this the "headache ending." Being a five-piece endgame, the rook and bishop versus rook endgame has been fully analysed using computers. Endgame tablebases ...

Cochrane Theatre
The Cochrane Theatre, previously known as the Jeanetta Cochrane Theatre, was a receiving and producing theatre situated in Holborn, London, that opened in 1964. It is now used for television filming. History The theatre opened in 1963 and was named after its founder, Jeannetta Cochrane, who was a theatre practitioner specialising in costume and scenery design at the Central School of Art and Design, now part of the University of the Arts London. Through her persistence, Cochrane persuaded the London County Council to build a theatre attached to the school that could be used as a practice space. The theatre has a traditional proscenium arch and fly tower consisting of 41 counterweight flying bars, orchestra pit and a fully functioning paint frame (a rarity in London theatres). From 1991 to 1995, Talawa Theatre Company had its home at the Cochrane Theatre. The Cochrane closed in January 2012 when Central St Martin's moved to a new site near King's Cross (unifying what had been ...

''The Fighting Cochranes. A Scottish Clan With Over Six Hundred Years of Naval and Military History''. . between the eighth and tenth centuries. It is evident that the name is of territorial origin, derived from the lands of Cochrane near Paisley., p. 57., p. 158. The origin of the name itself is believed to be derived from two Gaelic words which jointly mean ''The Roar of the Battle'' or ''Battle Cry''. The Cochranes took the boar as their heraldic beast, in keeping with the character of their traditional ancestor. The three boar's heads adorning the chief's shield are said to represent the exploits of a warrior who killed three of the beasts who were terrorizing the countryside. Another traditional origin of the name Cochrane is ...

Cochrane (surname)
Cochrane is a surname with multiple independent origins, two Scottish and one Irish. One of the Scottish names derives from a place in Scotland; the Irish surname and the other Scottish surname are both anglicisations of surnames from the Irish language and Scottish Gaelic respectively. History The name ''Cochrane'' originates from a habitational name derived from the "Lowlands of Cochrane", near Paisley in Renfrewshire. The derivation of the place name is uncertain. One possibility is that it is derived from the Welsh ''coch'' meaning "red"; however this theory is not supported by the early spelling of the name ''Coueran''. It is also possible the name is derived from the Welsh word "cywrain", which means "skilled". Early recorded bearers of the surname are Waldeve ''de Coueran'' in 1262; William ''de Coughran'' in 1296; and Robert ''de Cochrane'' in about 1360. In Scotland during the 18th century, the surname was used as a Lowland adaptation of the Scottish Gaelic ''Macea ...
