Cobourg Kodiaks
The Cobourg Kodiaks, originally the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks, are a Major Series Lacrosse team located in Cobourg, Ontario. They are a Senior "A" box lacrosse team, which play in the Major Series Lacrosse league. The MSL consists of six teams, including the Kodiaks. Most of the players in this league play or have played in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) is a Senior A box lacrosse league based in Ontario, Canada sanctioned by the Ontario Lacrosse Association. Most of the star players in the league play or have played in the National Lacrosse League. History Field Era Major Series Lacrosse originated in the late 19th century as the Canadian Lacrosse Association. In its early days, it had competition from the semi-professional National Lacrosse Union that ran from around 1880 until around 1920 with teams in the Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal markets. Cobourg
Cobourg ( ) is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in Southern Ontario east of Toronto and east of Oshawa. It is the largest town in and seat of Northumberland County. National Lacrosse League
The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is a men's professional box lacrosse league in North America. The league is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The NLL currently has fifteen teams: ten in the United States and five in Canada. The NLL ranks third in average attendance for pro indoor sports worldwide, behind only the National Hockey League, NHL and National Basketball Association, NBA. The Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) is a men's Senior A box lacrosse sanctioned by the Canadian Lacrosse Association. It consists of seven teams, based in cities throughout southwestern British Columbia. Each year, the playoff teams battle for the right to compete against the Major Series Lacrosse champion for the Mann Cup every September. The championship is hosted alternately between Ontario and British Columbia every year. The calibre of lacrosse in the WLA is very high, as the majority of its players also play in the National Lacrosse League during the winter months, while the WLA schedule runs from mid-May to August. Mann Cup
The Mann Cup is the trophy awarded to the senior men's box lacrosse champions of Canada. The championship is a best-of-seven, East vs West series played between the league champions of Major Series Lacrosse, the East, and Western Lacrosse Association, the West. The original trophy is now permanently located in the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. It is one of the most valuable in all of sports; made of solid, albeit low-karat, gold, the trophy was valued at CA$60,000 () when appraised by Birks in May 1980. Joey Cupido
Joey Cupido (born August 14, 1990) is a Canadian professional lacrosse player who plays for the Colorado Mammoth in the National Lacrosse League. Cupido was also a two time All-Canadian football player with the McMaster University Marauders in the CIS. Lacrosse career Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Cupido began his junior lacrosse career with the Hamilton Bengals in the Ontario Junior B league in 2007. He moved on to the Junior A Six Nations Arrows in 2008. Cupido scored 57 goals and added 55 assists for the Arrows over three regular seasons and he finished his Junior A playoff career with 25 goals and 46 points. He was selected in the fifth round, 38th overall, by the Colorado Mammoth in the 2011 NLL draft and in the fourth round, 22nd overall, by the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks in the 2012 MSL draft.
