Elizabeth Coatsworth
Elizabeth Jane Coatsworth (May 31, 1893 – August 31, 1986) was an American writer of fiction and poetry for children and adults. She won the 1931 Newbery Medal from the American Library Association award recognizing '' The Cat Who Went to Heaven'' as the previous year's "most distinguished contribution to American literature for children." In 1968 she was a highly commended runner-up for the biennial international Hans Christian Andersen Award for children's writers. Life Elizabeth Coatsworth was born May 31, 1893, to Ida Reid and William T. Coatsworth, a prosperous grain merchant in Buffalo, New York. She attended Buffalo Seminary, a private girls' school, and spent summers with her family on the Canadian shore of Lake Erie. Emerson Coatsworth
Emerson Coatsworth, Jr., KC (March 9, 1854 – May 11, 1943) was a Canadian lawyer and politician. He was also a member of the Orange Order in Canada. Born in Toronto, Coatsworth was educated at the public schools, and studied privately for matriculation into the Law Society. Afterwards he attended Osgoode Hall Law School, and graduated in law in University of Toronto in 1886. A practicing lawyer, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada for the riding of Toronto East in the 1891 federal election. A Conservative, he was defeated in the 1896 election by Independent Conservative John Ross Robertson. In 1904, he was elected an alderman for the Toronto City Council. Gary Coatsworth
Gary Coatsworth (born 7 October 1968) is an English former footballer who made 60 appearances in the Football League playing as a defender for Barnsley, Darlington, and Leicester City. He scored the goal that confirmed Darlington as winners of the 1989–90 Football Conference title, and played in Leicester City's 1994 Football League First Division play-off final victory over Derby County. Injury forced his retirement from professional football in 1995 at the age of 26, though he was able to continue for some years in non-league football. John Henry Coatsworth
John Henry Coatsworth (born September 27, 1940) is an Americans, American historian of Latin America and the former provost (education), provost of Columbia University. From 2012 until June 30, 2019, Coatsworth served as Columbia provost. From 2007 until February 2012 Coatsworth was the dean of Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), and served concurrently as interim provost beginning in 2011. Coatsworth is a scholar of Latin American economic, social and international history, with an emphasis on Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. Tacoma Narrows Bridge (1940)
The 1940 Tacoma Narrows Bridge, the first Tacoma Narrows Bridge, was a suspension bridge in the U.S. state of Washington that spanned the Tacoma Narrows strait of Puget Sound between Tacoma and the Kitsap Peninsula. It opened to traffic on July 1, 1940, and dramatically collapsed into Puget Sound on November 7 of the same year. The bridge's collapse has been described as "spectacular" and in subsequent decades "has attracted the attention of engineers, physicists, and mathematicians".
