Official description Honduran law describes the coat of arms as follows: ''The Arms to be used are an equilateral triangle. In its base there is a volcano between two castles, over them a rainbow, and below it, behind the volcano, raises a sun spreading light. The triangle is settled on a terrain bathed by both seas. Around it, an oval containing the golden letters: REPÚBLICA DE HONDURAS LIBRE, SOBERANA, INDEPENDIENTE. – 15 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 1821. Honduras
Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. The republic of Honduras is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea. Its capital and largest city is Tegucigalpa. Honduras was home to several important Mesoamerican cultures, most notably the Maya, before the Spanish Colonization in the sixteenth century. The Spanish introduced Catholicism and the now predominant Spanish language, along with numerous customs that have blended with the indigenous culture. Honduras became independent in 1821 and has since been a republic, although it has consistently endured much social strife and political instability, and remains one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. In 1960, the northern part of what was the Mosquito Coast was transferred from Nicara ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Flag Of Honduras
The flag of Honduras consists of three equal horizontal stripes of turquoise, white and turquoise, with five turquoise stars in a quincuncial pattern at the centre of the middle stripe. The two outer bands represent the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, and also represent the blue sky and brotherhood. The inner band represents the land between the ocean and the sea, the peace and prosperity of its people, and purity of thoughts. The five stars represent the five nations of the former Federal Republic of Central America and they hope that the nations may form a union again. In 1823, Honduras joined the United Provinces of Central America and adopted its flag. It continued using a plain blue and white triband after the union dissolved in 1838. On 7 March 1866 five blue stars were placed on the flag to represent the five original provinces: El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Guatemala. The size and position of the stars were officially fixed when the design was st ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Unofficially, the anthem is sometimes called "''Tu bandera es un lampo de cielo''" ("Your flag is a splendour of sky"), which is in the first line of the chorus. History Between First Mexican Empire, independence from Spain in 1821 and 1915, Honduras did not have an official national anthem and used various unofficial anthems such as "La Granadera" (by Rómulo E. Durón), "El Himno Marcial", "Un Salva Hondureño" (of unknown authorship), "Himno Nacional" (by Valentín Durón), "Marcha a Gerardo Barrios" (by Belgian author Coussin, used during the presidency of José María Medina) and the "Himno Hondureño". In 1904, a group of intellectuals proposed to President Manuel Bonilla a competition to find a national anthem, but a competition was not held until 1910 with Decr ...
