Coast Chilcotin was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1979. It was located in the province of British Columbia. Geography The riding spanned the southern Coast Mountains and included the Central Coast through Queen Charlotte Strait and Johnstone Strait to the Sunshine Coast and Howe Sound, as well as the Chilcotin Plateau and from the Cariboo down to Howe Sound via Lillooet. History Coast Chilcotin was created in 1966 and incorporated components of these other ridings: *Cariboo *Coast—Capilano *Comox—Alberni *Fraser Valley *Kamloops * Skeena The most significant components were those from Comox—Alberni (the Sunshine Coast), Cariboo and Coast—Capilano. Fraser Valley was a federal electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1925 to 1968 and from 1997 to 2004. History This electoral district has existed twice. It was first created in 1919 from Westminster District. In 1966, it was abolished when it was redistributed into Fraser Valley East, Fraser Valley West and Coast Chilcotin ridings. It was reformed in 1996 from Fraser Valley East and Fraser Valley West ridings. It was again abolished in 2003 when it was divided between Abbotsford and Chilliwack—Fraser Canyon ridings. This is a list of past arrangements of Canada's electoral districts. Each district sends one member to the House of Commons of Canada. In 1999 and 2003, the Legislative Assembly of Ontario was elected using the same districts within that province. 96 of Ontario's 107 provincial electoral districts, roughly those outside Northern Ontario, remain coterminous with their federal counterparts. This is a list of Canada's 338 federal electoral districts (commonly referred to as '' ridings'' in Canadian English) as defined by the ''2013 Representation Order''. Canadian federal electoral districts are constituencies that elect members of Parliament to Canada's House of Commons every election. Provincial electoral districts often have names similar to their local federal counterpart, but usually have different geographic boundaries. Canadians elected members for each federal electoral district most recently in the 2021 federal election on . Harry Olaussen
Harry Magnus Olaussen (born 8 October 1929) is a retired Canadian politician who was a New Democratic Party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a merchant seaman, stationary engineer and steam engineer by career. Olaussen was first elected at the Coast Chilcotin riding in the 1972 general election. After serving one term, the 29th Canadian Parliament, he was defeated at Coast Chilcotin by Jack Pearsall of the Liberal party in the 1974 election. Lorne Greenaway
Lorne Everett Greenaway (8 May 1933 – 13 September 2010) was a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a rancher and veterinarian by career. Greenaway was born in Bella Coola, British Columbia in 1933. In 1952, he graduated from Kelowna Senior Secondary School and went on to attend Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario, where he graduated at the top of his class and served as class president. Greenway went on to establish a small and large animal practice in Kamloops that served many of the farms in the area. In 1968, he served as an associate professor at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for one year before returning to British Columbia. Upon his return, he delved into ranching in the Kelowna and Williams Lake areas. Albert John Pearsall (27 April 1915 – 8 November 1982) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and became a senior payroll clerk by career. 1968 Canadian Federal Election
The 1968 Canadian federal election was held on June 25, 1968, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 28th Parliament of Canada. In April 1968, Prime Minister Lester Pearson of the Liberal Party resigned as party leader as a result of declining health and failing to win a majority government in two attempts. He was succeeded by his Minister of Justice and Attorney General Pierre Trudeau, who called an election immediately after becoming prime minister. Trudeau's charisma appealed to Canadian voters; his popularity was known as "Trudeaumania" and helped him win a comfortable majority.
