Coalition Montréal
Coalition Montréal (''Montreal Coalition'') was a municipal political party in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, formed in 2013 to support the candidacy of Marcel Côté for mayor of Montreal. The party competed for the first time in the 2013 municipal election. The party was formed by former members of the Union Montreal party (such as councillor Marvin Rotrand), as well as the Vision Montreal party and its former leader (Louise Harel). Following Marcel Côté's death on May 25, 2014, Benoit Dorais became party leader. Union Montreal (french: Union Montréal) is an inactive municipal political party in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was the governing party in the city from 2001, when it won its first election under mayor Gérald Tremblay, until 2012. Projet Montréal (officially Projet Montréal - Équipe Valérie Plante) is a progressive, environmentalist municipal political party in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Founded in 2004, it is led by Valérie Plante, and holds a majority of seats on Montreal City Council. Origins Projet Montréal was created by environmental activists in May 2004. Electoral performance Richard Bergeron was the party's first mayoral candidate. He was elected to the City Council in 2005 and gathered 8.53% of the vote for Mayor. Benoit Dorais
Benoit Dorais is a city councillor from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He has served as the borough mayor of Le Sud-Ouest since 2009. From his first election to 2013, Dorais was a member of Vision Montreal, before joining Coalition Montréal in 2013 and Projet Montréal prior to the 2017 municipal election. Dorais was born and raised in the Saint-Henri neighbourhood. Prior to his election as city councillor, Dorais served as a political staff member to former Bloc Québécois MP Thierry St-Cyr. He has also served as a commissioner with the Commission scolaire de Montréal since 2007. He holds a university degree in philosophy and social ethics. Louise Harel
Louise Harel (born April 22, 1946) is a Quebec politician. In 2005 she served as interim leader of the Parti Québécois following the resignation of Bernard Landry. She was also interim leader of the opposition in the National Assembly of Quebec. She represented the riding of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve in the Montreal region, and its predecessors, from 1981 to 2008. She ran for Mayor of Montreal as the representative of the Vision Montreal municipal political party in the 2009 election, but was defeated by incumbent Gérald Tremblay. In the 2013 Montreal election, Harel supported federalist Marcel Côté for mayor but failed to be elected to her own council seat. Marvin Rotrand
Marvin Rotrand (born 1951) is a former Canadian politician, last sitting as an independent. He previously served as a member of Montreal City Council, representing the district of Snowdon. Rotrand served on Montreal city council from 1982 until 2021, and was its dean for several years; he worked full-time in his duties. Rotrand is currently serving B’Nai Brith Canada as its national director of the League of Human Rights. Background Born in Montreal, son of a Holocaust survivor, Rotrand holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Sir George Williams University and a Bachelor of Education from McGill University. 2013 Montreal Municipal Election
Municipal elections were held in the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada on November 3, 2013 as part of the 2013 Quebec municipal elections. Voters elected 65 positions on the Montreal City Council, including the mayor, borough mayors, and city councillors, as well as 38 borough councillors. Denis Coderre replaced interim mayor Laurent Blanchard, who was elected to replace the previous interim mayor, Michael Applebaum, who resigned due to 14 charges laid against him including fraud, conspiracy, breach of trust, and corruption in municipal affairs. Blue
Blue is one of the three primary colours in the RYB colour model (traditional colour theory), as well as in the RGB (additive) colour model. The mayor of Montreal is head of the executive branch of the Montreal City Council. The current mayor is Valérie Plante, who was elected into office on November 5, 2017, and sworn in on November 16.
