Coalesse
Coalesse is a United States-based furniture company founded in 2008. It is a division of Steelcase and creates products with the goal of encouraging collaboration. Coalesse is headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan with their design headquarters in San Francisco and their main showroom located in the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. Company overview Coalesse launched in June 2008 at the NeoCon World's Trade Fair in Chicago. It is a combination of Steelcase's Brayton, Metro, and Vecta brands, but also includes pieces made by Carl Hansen & Son, Walter Knoll AG & Co., Viccarbe, and PP Mobler. Michael Young (industrial Designer)
Michael Young (born 23 August 1966) is a British industrial designer and creative director based in Hong Kong. He works in the areas of product, furniture and interior design with studios in Hong Kong and Brussels. He is known for unconventional use of materials and manufacturing processes, and collaborations with brands such as KEF, Coalesse and MOKE International. Patricia Urquiola
Patricia Urquiola Hidalgo (born 1961 in Oviedo) is a Spanish architect, industrial designer and art director. Biography At age 22, Urquiola left her hometown of Oviedo to attend the Polytechnic University of Milan in architecture. After graduation, she went to work at the studio of De Padova in Milan where she became the head of product design. From 1996 to 2001 she worked for Lissoni Associati. She has designed products and furniture for companies including Alessi, Cappellini, Cassina, Coalesse, , Kartell, and Moroso. Her ''Step Sofa'' was shown at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Arik Levy
Arik Levy was born in Tel Aviv. An artist and industrial designer, he attended the Art Center Europe in Switzerland where he graduated with distinction in 1991. Levy employs a multi-disciplinary approach in both the art and industrial design fields. His works have been included in multiple museum collections. Levy lives and works in Paris. Jean-Marie Massaud (born 1966 in Toulouse, France) is a French architect, inventor and designer. He was born in Toulouse, France in 1966. Massuad graduated from the ''École Nationale Supérieur de Création Industrielle - Les Ateliers, Paris'' (ENSCI) in 1990 and began working with Marc Berthier. The International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) is an award program previously co-sponsored by ''BusinessWeek'' magazine, and in 2010 ''Fast Company'' magazine and the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). According to the IDSA, IDEA "is dedicated to fostering business and public understanding of the importance of industrial design excellence to the quality of life and economy". The Red Dot Design Award is a German international design prize awarded by Red Dot GmbH & Co. KG. There are prize categories for product design, brands and communication design, and design concept. Since 1955, designers and producers can apply for the prizes, with the winners being presented in an annual ceremony. The Chicago Athenaeum is a private museum of architecture and design, based in Galena, Illinois. The museum focuses on the art of design in all areas of the discipline: architecture, industrial and product design, graphics, landscape architecture, and urban planning. Among its goals is to advance public education on how design can positively impact the human environment. The museum awards numerous prizes for architecture and design. History The museum was founded in 1988 in Chicago and 1998 moved to Schaumburg, Illinois and in 2004 on to Galena, Illinois. The museum in Galena is located in a former brewery building (Fulton Brewery, later Galena Brewery, Eulberg & Sons). In Schaumburg, the museum occupied an old barn at 190 S.
