Clément Bonnand
Mgr. Clément BONNAND (20 May 1796 – 21 March 1861) was a missionary of Paris Foreign Missions Society and was the Vicar Apostolic of Pondicherry from 3 April 1850 until his death on 21 March 1861. He was born on 20 May 1796 in Saint-Maurice-sur-Dargoire, France, he was ordained priest on 17 June 1821. He served for some time as an assistant in a parish of his own diocese. He joined the MEP Seminary on 14 November 1823. He left for the Malabar Mission on 4 February 1824 and served first at Phirangipuram in Andhra Pradesh. Consecration He was selected as Coadjutor by Bishop Louis-Charles-Auguste Hébert in 1831. He hesitated a long time before accepting this charge. He was consecrated on 8 November 1833 at Oulgaret in Our Lady of Victory Church. This odd place was chosen for his consecration because the diocese was hit by a heavy famine and it was feared that a lavish ceremony would result in the hatred of the starving people. Mgr. Paris Foreign Missions Society
The Society of Foreign Missions of Paris (french: Société des Missions Etrangères de Paris, short M.E.P.) is a Roman Catholic missionary organization. It is not a religious institute, but an organization of secular priests and lay persons dedicated to missionary work in foreign lands. The Society of Foreign Missions of Paris was established 1658–63. In 1659, instructions for establishment of the Paris Foreign Missions Society were given by Rome's Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith. This marked the creation of a missionary institution that, for the first time, did not depend on the control of the traditional missionary and colonial powers of Spain or Portugal. Gabrijel Palković, O.S.B.M. (15 April 1715 – 25 February 1759) was a Ruthenian and Croatian Greek Catholic hierarch. He was the titular bishop Drizipara and Vicar Apostolic of Marča from 1752 to 1759. Biography Born in Zakarpattia, Habsburg monarchy (present day – Ukraine) in 1715, Palković was ordained a priest on 12 November 1741 as member of the Order of Saint Basil the Great. Before his nomination as bishop, Fr. Palković was the member of the Saint Nicholas Basilian Monastery in Mukacheve. He was confirmed as the Bishop by the Holy See on 4 August 1752. Pope Pius IX ( it, Pio IX, ''Pio Nono''; born Giovanni Maria Mastai Ferretti; 13 May 1792 – 7 February 1878) was head of the Catholic Church from 1846 to 1878, the longest verified papal reign. He was notable for convoking the First Vatican Council in 1868 and for permanently losing control of the Papal States in 1870 to the Kingdom of Italy. Thereafter he refused to leave Vatican City, declaring himself a " prisoner of the Vatican".
