Clássico Dos Milhões
''Clássico dos Milhões'' (meaning "Derby of Millions") is the name of the soccer Brazilian derby between Flamengo and Vasco da Gama, both from the city of Rio de Janeiro. Considered as one of the most fiercely contested derbies in Brazilian football, both in historic rivalry and in popularity. It has been named that way since its beginnings in the 1920s, as Flamengo and Vasco have the two largest fan bases in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Poll estimations, though variable, attribute Flamengo and Vasco with a combined share of about 20% of the overall population, i.e., totaling around 45 million supporters nationwide (roughly 30 million to Flamengo and 15 million to Vasco). Diego (footballer, Born 1985)
Diego Ribas da Cunha (born 28 February 1985), commonly known as just Diego or Diego Ribas, is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Diego began his career at Santos, where he won two Campeonato Brasileiro Série A titles before moving to Porto in 2004. Despite winning further trophies in Portugal, his personal form dropped. After two seasons, he moved for €6 million to Werder Bremen where his form improved, winning domestic honours and helping them to the 2009 UEFA Cup Final. Campeonato Brasileiro Tournament Scheduling
Between 1959 and 1970, two national championships existed to provide Brazilian representatives to Copa Libertadores. These were the Taça Brasil (1959–1968) and the Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa (1967–1970). The current Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (i.e., Brazilian football league) was created in 1971 using the structure of Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa. Since then, the competition has never featured the same scheduling twice, either changing the number of participants or the structure. This lack of consistency has made the competition difficult for non-Brazilians to follow and contributed to the ignorance of the tournament amongst European and American press and public, on top of the standard disregard and prejudices. Taça Guanabara
The Taça Guanabara, or Guanabara Cup, is a football tournament organized annually since 1965 by the Rio de Janeiro State Football Federation. In its first four editions (1965, 1966, 1967 and 1968), the Taça Guanabara was a tournament in its own right, unrelated to the Rio de Janeiro league, and the winner would represent Rio de Janeiro in the Taça Brasil de Futebol national league competition.
