Clyde Evans
Clyde Evans (June 26, 1938 – August 11, 2021) was an American politician who served as a Republican member of the Ohio House of Representatives, who represented the 87th district from 2003 to 2010. Term limited in 2010, he ran for the Ohio Senate, but lost the primary election to David T. Daniels. He died on August 11, 2021, in Gallipolis, Ohio, at age 83. John Carey (Ohio State Senator)
John Carey (born April 18, 1959) is an American politician in the Republican Party. He became the Chancellor of the University System of Ohio in 2013. In 2011, he served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 87th District, before resigning at the end of the year. He also was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1995 until 2002, and the Ohio Senate from 2003 to 2010. Career Carey graduated from Wellston High School and attended Ohio University, where he earned a degree in political science. After college, he worked as an aide to U.S. Representative Clarence Miller and served as Mayor of Wellston from 1988 to 1994. Carey defeated incumbent Representative Mark Malone in 1994 to take his first term in the Ohio House of Representatives, and won reelection handily in 1996. The Ohio Senate is the upper house of the Ohio General Assembly. The State Senate, which meets in the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, first convened in 1803. Senators are elected for four year terms, staggered every two years such that half of the seats are contested at each election. Even numbered seats and odd numbered seats are contested in separate election years. The president of the Ohio Senate presides over the body when in session, and is currently Matt Huffman. Currently, the Senate consists of 25 Republicans and eight Democrats, with the Republicans controlling three more seats than the 22 required for a supermajority vote. Rio Grande ( ) is a village in Gallia County, Ohio, United States. The population was 724 at the 2020 census. It is part of the rural Point Pleasant micropolitan area. Although the town is named after the river in the southern United States, its name is pronounced "Rye-O Grand" rather than the traditional Spanish pronunciation so that it rhymes with "Ohio." Rio Grande is home to the University of Rio Grande/ Rio Grande Community College, the alma mater of Bevo Francis, who set and until recently still held the NCAA basketball single-game scoring record. The Ohio House of Representatives is the lower house of the Ohio General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Ohio; the other house of the bicameral legislature being the Ohio Senate. The House of Representatives first met in Chillicothe on March 3, 1803, under the later superseded state constitution of that year. In 1816, the capital was moved to Columbus, where it is located today. Members are limited to four successive two-year elected terms (terms are considered successive if they are separated by less than four years).
