Alexander Clutterbuck
Sir Peter Alexander Clutterbuck (27 March 1897 – 29 December 1975) was a British diplomat who was high commissioner to Canada and India and ambassador to Ireland. Life and career Alexander's father, Sir Peter Clutterbuck, was an Inspector General of Forests in India and Burma. Peter Alexander Clutterbuck was educated at Malvern College and Pembroke College, Cambridge. During World War I, he served in the Coldstream Guards and was awarded the Military Cross and a mention in dispatches. After the war he entered the Civil Service, at first in the Post Office, transferring to the Colonial Office in 1922. He was secretary to the Donoughmore Commission 1927–28, and a member of the UK delegations to the League of Nations General Assembly in 1929, 1930 and 1931. He was secretary to the Newfoundland Royal Commission in 1933. He was High Commissioner to Canada 1946–52 and to India 1952–55. Katherine Mary Clutterbuck
Katherine Mary Clutterbuck (October 1860 in Wiltshire, England – 31 July 1946 in Nedlands, Western Australia), usually known as Sister Kate, was an Anglican nun who pioneered a cottage home system for looking after orphan babies and children in Western Australia. She later became well known for her work with Indigenous Australian children who were selected according to a criterion of skin colour and sent to her homes to groom the young "nearly white" children for absorption into the white community. These children would later be described as part of the Stolen Generation. Clutterbuck was the daughter of well-off parents, Captain Clutterbuck and his wife. She was awarded an Order of the British Empire (Member of the Civil Division), on 1 January 1934, for her services to disadvantaged children. Benn Wolfe Levy (7 March 1900 – 7 December 1973) was a Labour Party Member of Parliament in the House of Commons (1945–1950), and a successful playwright. He was educated at Repton School and University College, Oxford and served in uniform in both World Wars. Playwright and parliamentarian Before entering politics, Levy was a successful playwright and screenwriter. He was the dialogue writer for ''Blackmail'' (1929); directed by Alfred Hitchcock, it was the first British sound film. Thomas Clutterbuck (1697 – 23 November 1742) was a British politician who sat in the British House of Commons from 1722 to 1742 and in the Parliament of Ireland from 1725 to 1742. Clutterbuck was the eldest son of Thomas Clutterbuck of Ingatestone, Essex and his wife Bridgett Exton, daughter of Sir Thomas Exton, LLD, one of the Six Clerks in Chancery. He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford on 20 October 1713, aged 16 and was admitted at Middle Temple in 1713. He married Henrietta Cuffe Tollemache, daughter of Lord Huntingtower ion 1 May 1731. Robert Clutterbuck (28 June 1772 – 25 May 1831) was an English historian. He spent 18 years writing ''The History and Antiquities of the County of Hertford''. Life He was the eldest surviving son of Thomas Clutterbuck, of Watford Hertfordshire by Sarah, daughter of Robert Thurgood of Baldock. He was born at Watford on 28 June 1772, and at an early age was sent to Harrow School. He went to Exeter College, Oxford as a gentleman commoner. After graduating B.A. in 1794 he entered Lincoln's Inn, intending to make the law his profession; but became more interested in chemistry and painting (in which he took lessons from James Barry. Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Peter Henry Clutterbuck (28 September 1868 – 20 December 1951) was a British colonial civil servant and expert in forestry conservation, who worked as the Inspector General of Forests to the Government of India. Early life Clutterbuck was born in Great Stanmore, Middlesex. He was educated at Clifton College and Bloxham School, followed by the Royal Indian Engineering College. India He was an officer in the Indian Auxiliary Force between 1887 and 1919. He became a civil servant in the Imperial Forestry Service, and worked in the Central Provinces (1889) and United Provinces (1890).
