Club Sportivo Alsina, or simply Sportivo Alsina is an Argentine sports club located in the Valentín Alsina district of Lanús Partido that played in tournaments organised by the Argentine Football Association from the 1920s to the 1940s, even reaching the Primera División in 1933 and 1934. The club is headquartered on the corner of Choele Choel and Juan Domingo Perón streets in Valentín Alsina. Although football is no longer practised at competitive levels in Sportivo Alsina, the club hosts the practise of other disciplines such as baby football, basketball, roller skating and volleyball. Valentín Alsina (December 16, 1802 – September 6, 1869) was an Argentine lawyer and politician. Biography Early life Alsina was born in Buenos Aires and studied law at the University of Córdoba. He occupied diverse posts in government, and had a successful civil career as an advocate and professor of law at the University of Buenos Aires. Political views Under the government of Juan Manuel de Rosas, he had to leave the country, as his liberal ideas did not please the dictator at all. From his refuge in Montevideo, he supported the opposition against de Rosas, both financially and through publications. When Rosas was deposed by Justo José de Urquiza, Alsina returned to Buenos Aires, and he was elected provincial Governor in 1852. Clubs affiliated to the body compete in the tournaments, which are split into categories or divisions. Rules establish a system of promotion and relegation, a process where teams are transferred between two divisions based on their performance for the completed season. The 1934 FIFA World Cup was the second edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football championship for senior men's national teams. The Primera C Metropolitana is one of the two professional leagues that form the fourth level of the Argentine football league system. Primera C Metropolitana is made up of 20 clubs mainly from the city of Buenos Aires and its metropolitan area (Greater Buenos Aires). The other league at level four is the Torneo Federal B, where teams from regional leagues take part. Format Primera C is currently organised into two league tournaments, the Apertura (opening) and the Clausura (closing).
