Cheney Clow
Cheney Clow (1734–1788) was a loyalist from Delaware Colony during the American Revolution who staged a rebellion against the colonial government that was advocating separation from Great Britain. Early life Cheney Clow was born in 1734 in Delaware Colony, the third of nine children of Nathaniel Clow and his wife Susannah. They lived in Queen Anne's County, Province of Maryland, owned their own farm, of unknown acres but was said to have been considerable. Land recorded in 1744, was named "Clow's Hope." In 1747 another was recorded and it was called "Boon's Hope". Boon's Hope cost Nathaniel and Susannah 2,100 pounds of tobacco, which was a common practice in the early colonies, paying for items with tobacco off your own land. Nathaniel Clow died in 1748, his estate papers and will are filed in the courthouse in Annapolis. He wanted his estate divided equally among his wife and children. James Clow
James M. Clow (26 May 1790 – 15 March 1861) was a Presbyterian minister, in the area which now consists of the outer-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. Early life and education James Clow was born at Ardoch on 26 May 1790. He educated at University of St Andrews. He was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Kirkcaldy on 21 July 1813, He was subsequently appointed chaplain at Bombay by the Court of Directors H.E.I.C. on 8 December 1814, and ordained (by Presb. of Kirkcaldy) on 5 April 1815. Work in Bombay He arrived in Bombay on 8 November 1815, and on 15 December attended a meeting called by the Government to select a site and consider plans for a church. He held his first meeting of kirk-session 11 February 1816. Clow returned to Scotland on account of ill-health on October 1817. Andrew Clow
Sir Andrew Gourlay Clow, KCSI, CIE (29 April 1890 – 31 December 1957) was a British colonial administrator in India. He was a specialist in labour conditions in India. Clow was member for Communications on the Viceroy’s Council until his appointment as Governor of Assam from 1942 to 1947, the last British-born governor. Early life Andrew Clow was born in Aberdeen. He was the elder son of Rev. W. M. Clow, a minister of the South Church, Aberdeen. Rev. Clow was also the Principal at the United Free Church College, Glasgow. Career He represented the Indian Government as a delegate at the International Labour Conferences at Geneva. He was the Deputy Secretary to the Government of India from 1924 to 1927 and Joint Secretary (Industries and Labour) from 1931 to 1935.
