Clovis Buzzers
The Clovis Buzzers were a West Texas League baseball team based in Clovis, New Mexico, United States that played in 1922. They played their home games at League Park. They were the only non-Texas based team to ever play in the West Texas League. In addition, they were the first professional baseball team to ever come out of Clovis, New Mexico. The 1923 Clovis team was the Clovis Cubs who played one season, and it would be until 1938 when the Clovis Pioneers began play that minor league baseball returned to Clovis. West Texas League
The West Texas League was a Class D level minor league baseball league that existed from 1920 to 1922 and from 1928 to 1929. 1920-1922 The following teams played in 1920: Abilene Eagles, Ranger Nitros, Mineral Wells Resorters, Cisco Scouts, Gorman Buddies/ Sweetwater Swatters and Eastland Judges. The Abilene Eagles beat the Ranger Nitros in the playoffs to win the league championship. For the 1921 season, the Swatters, Eagles, Resorters, Nitros and Scouts returned to the league. The Resorters moved to Ballinger to become the Ballinger Bearcats. The Cisco Scouts changed their name to the Cisco Orphans. The Eastland Judges left the league and a new team, the San Angelo Bronchos, joined. The Abilene Eagles won their second championship in a row, beating the Swatters. Clovis, New Mexico
Clovis is a city in and the county seat of Curry County, New Mexico, Curry County, New Mexico. The city had a population of 37,775 as of the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census, and a 2019 estimated population of 38,319. Clovis is located in the New Mexico portion of the Llano Estacado, in the eastern part of the state. League Park (Clovis)
League Park was a baseball park located in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. It was situated at the northeast corner of Dunham Street (now known as East 66th Street) and Lexington Avenue in the Hough neighborhood. It was built in 1891 as a wood structure and rebuilt using concrete and steel in 1910. The park was home to a number of professional sports teams, most notably the Cleveland Indians of Major League Baseball. League Park was first home to the Cleveland Spiders of the National League from 1891 to 1899 and of the Cleveland Lake Shores of the Western League, the minor league predecessor to the Indians, in 1900. Clovis Pioneers
The Clovis Pioneers was the primary name of the minor league baseball team that played in Clovis, New Mexico in various seasons from 1922 to 1957. The team was an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians (1946), Chicago Cubs (1950-1951) and Cincinnati Reds (1956-1957). History Minor league baseball in Clovis began in 1922 and 1923 as the Clovis Buzzers and Cubs played in the Panhandle-Pecos Valley League and the West Texas League. Clovis was the first non-Texas team to play in the West Texas League. After a 15 year hiatus, the Clovis Pioneers played in the West Texas–New Mexico League (1938-1942, 1946-1955) and in the Southwestern League (1956).
