Cloudripper
Cloudripper is a 13,525-foot-elevation (4,122 meter) mountain summit located two miles east of the crest of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Inyo County of northern California, United States. It is situated in the Palisades area of the John Muir Wilderness, on land managed by Inyo National Forest. It is approximately west of the community of Big Pine, north-northeast of Picture Puzzle, and south of parent Mount Agassiz. Cloudripper ranks as the 58th highest summit in California, and the highest point of the Inconsolable Range. Palisades (California Sierra)
The Palisades (or the Palisade Group) are a group of peaks in the central part of the Sierra Nevada in the U.S. state of California. They are located about southwest of the town of Big Pine, California. The peaks in the group are particularly steep, rugged peaks and "contain the finest Mountaineering, alpine climbing in California." The group makes up about of the Sierra Crest, which divides the California Central Valley, Central Valley watershed from the Owens Valley, and which runs generally northwest to southeast. Situation Josiah Whitney in his book ''Geology, Volume 1'' writes: "At the head of the north fork, along the main crest of the Sierra, is a range of peaks, from 13,500 to 14,000 feet high, which we called 'the Palisades.' Sierra Peaks Section
The Sierra Peaks Section (SPS) is a mountaineering society within the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club that serves to provide mountaineering activities for Sierra Club members in the Sierra Nevada, and to honor mountaineers who have summited Sierra Nevada peaks. History The Sierra Peaks Section was established in 1955. The Section maintains historic summit registers at Bancroft Library on the University of California, Berkeley campus. Mount Agassiz (California)
Mount Agassiz, at , is one of the 20 highest peaks of California. It is the northernmost and easiest to climb of the major Palisades summits. This peak is not to be confused with the peak by the same name in Desolation Wilderness, also in the California Sierra. Geography Agassiz is at the north end of the Palisades in the eastern Sierra Nevada, near Bishop Pass. It stands on the boundary between Kings Canyon National Park and Inyo National Forest, and Fresno and Inyo counties. A weather front is a boundary separating air masses for which several characteristics differ, such as air density, wind, temperature, and humidity. Disturbed and unstable weather due to these differences often arises along the boundary. Orographic lift occurs when an air mass is forced from a low elevation to a higher elevation as it moves over rising terrain.
