Cloud County Historical Museum
The Cloud County Historical Museum is located in Concordia, Kansas. The Museum preserves and exhibits objects and documents of historical items representing early-day Kansas. It is housed in the former 1908 Carnegie library building and an annex. Exhibits Martha Washington letter On February 2, 2011, the museum announced that it had found in a drawer a letter from Martha Washington to her husband George Washington. The letter was authenticated in 1920 but then forgotten in storage for nearly a century. Camp Concordia Records are on display of Camp Concordia, the World War II military prisoner of war camp located in Cloud County. There are also original paintings of former prisoners of war on display and many other items of interest about Camp Concordia. Concordia, Kansas
Concordia is a city in and the county seat of Cloud County, Kansas, Cloud County, Kansas, United States. It is located along the Republican River in the Smoky Hills region of the Great Plains in North Central Kansas. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population of the city was 5,111. Concordia is home of the Cloud County Community College and the Nazareth Convent and Academy. History 19th century Concordia holds the distinction of being elected the county seat before the town was created. The founder of the town, James Manney Hagaman, James M. Hagaman had created a complete layout of the town on paper including streets, blocks, courthouse, and parks. Martha Washington
Martha Dandridge Custis Washington (June 21, 1731 — May 22, 1802) was the wife of George Washington, the first president of the United States. Although the title was not coined until after her death, Martha Washington served as the inaugural first lady of the United States. During her lifetime, she was often referred to as "Lady Washington". Martha Dandridge first married Daniel Parke Custis. They had four children, two of whom survived to young adulthood. Daniel's death made Martha a widow at age 26. She brought her vast wealth to her marriage to Washington, which enabled him to buy land to add to his personal estate. She also brought with her 84 dower slaves from Daniel Custis' estate for use during her lifetime. They and their descendants reverted to Custis' estate at her death and were inherited by his heirs. George Washington

KSAL (AM)
KSAL (1150 kHz "NewsRadio 1150") is a commercial AM radio station that broadcasts a news-talk radio format. Licensed to Salina, Kansas, it serves the Salina-Manhattan area. The station is owned by Christopher Miller, through licensee Meridian Media, LLC. KSAL is powered at 5,000 watts. By day it uses a non-directional antenna. But to protect other stations on 1150 AM from interference, at night it switches to a directional antenna with a four-tower array. The transmitter is on North Woodward Road in New Cambria. Programming is also heard on 250 watt FM translator K294DI at 106.7 MHz in Salina. On weekdays, KSAL begins with "The KSAL Morning News." Camp Concordia
Camp Concordia was a prisoner-of-war camp that operated from 1943–1945. Its location is two miles north and one mile east of Concordia, Kansas. The camp was used primarily for German Army prisoners during World War II who were captured in battles that took place in Africa. Camp Concordia was the largest POW camp in Kansas, holding over 4,000 prisoners (some sources cite as high as 8,000 prisoners). The camp consisted of a complex of 300 buildings and was staffed by 800 United States soldiers. Daily life The prisoners arrived at Camp Concordia by train. Authorities believed the soldiers could provide useful labor for agriculture, and, almost immediately, the Germans started working with local farmers.
