Cloppenburg
Cloppenburg (; nds, Cloppenborg; stq, Kloppenbuurich) is a town in Lower Saxony, Germany, capital of Cloppenburg District and part of Oldenburg Münsterland. It lies 38 km south-south-west of Oldenburg in the Weser-Ems region between Bremen and the Dutch border. Cloppenburg is not far from the A1, the major motorway connecting the Ruhr area to Bremen and Hamburg. Another major road is the federal highway B213 being the shortest link from the Netherlands to the A1 and thus to Bremen and Hamburg. The town had strong cultural links with St Munchins Parish in Limerick, Ireland from the 1970s to the 1990s. During this period many groups of teens/young adults from both areas visited and were hosted by families from the other area. Economy The town is a centre for the largely agricultural region of southern Oldenburg. It is the administrative centre of the district and there are many schools. The Cloppenburg Museum Village and Lower Saxon Open-Air Museum (german: link=no, Museumsdorf Cloppenburg – Niedersächsisches Freilichtmuseum) located in the Lower Saxon county town of Cloppenburg is the oldest museum village in Germany. The museum is a research and educational establishment specializing in cultural and rural history. The Lower Saxon Open-Air Museum is a non-profit organisation. Cloppenburg (district)
Cloppenburg is a district in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is bounded by (from the north and clockwise) the districts of Ammerland, Oldenburg, Vechta, Osnabrück, Emsland and Leer. Like the neighbouring Vechta district, it is well known for factory farming, especially of turkeys and pigs. These two districts are also known as the ''Schweinegürtel'' (“pig belt”). The ground is mostly of poor quality. The mass import of animal food made factory farming possible. The Oldenburg Münsterland, otherwise called Oldenburger Münsterland or Oldenburgisches Münsterland, is a region in Lower Saxony, Germany and the administrative area that comprises the federal districts of Cloppenburg and Vechta. Werner Baumbach
Werner Baumbach (27 December 1916 – 20 October 1953) was a German bomber pilot during World War II. He commanded the secret bomber wing Kampfgeschwader 200 (KG 200) of the Luftwaffe, the air force of Nazi Germany. Baumbach received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords for the destruction of over of Allied shipping. Career Baumbach entered the ''Luftwaffe'' in 1936 and, after initial training at the 2nd Air Warfare School ( Fliegerhorst Gatow), was trained as a bomber pilot. He was one of the first pilots to fly the Junkers Ju 88 bomber and flew various bombing missions with Kampfgeschwader 30 (KG 30). On 19 April 1940, he bombed and damaged the French cruiser ''Émile Bertin'' for which he was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class. Fanny Moran-Olden
Fanny Moran-Olden (28 September 1855 – 12 February 1905) was a German soprano who appeared in leading roles both in her native Germany and in other European opera houses as well as the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She appeared in wide variety of roles but was particularly prominent in the Wagnerian repertoire. Her voice had an unusually wide range which allowed her to sing soprano, mezzo-soprano and contralto roles. She was born in Cloppenburg and died hopelessly insane at the age of 49 in a sanatorium on the outskirts of Berlin. She was married twice, first to the tenor Carl Moran and secondly to the Wagnerian bass-baritone, Theodor Bertram.
