Clonakenny GAA
Clonakenny GAA club is located in the parish of Bournea between Roscrea and Templemore and therefore is on the border of the Mid and North Division. Around the time of its foundation in 1905, Clonakenny played in the North division for a few years but for the life time of present club members Clonakenny has played in the Mid Division. Ironically, we won a number of North finals in recent years as part of a combination with Moneygall with whom we have joined forces underage. The club is one of the smallest rural Clubs in the county drawing on a parish with less than two hundred households. Its scarcity of numbers has meant that the club has mainly played in lower grade competitions at underage level since these grades were introduced. Clonakenny GAA have had their share of success winning county finals in minor and U21 C competitions in both hurling and football over the last twenty odd years. Tipperary Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Tipperary Intermediate Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Tipperary County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1979 for the third-tier hurling teams in the county of Tipperary in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Semple Stadium in October. The championship has always been played on a regional basis, whereby the respective champions from the Mid, North, South and West championships contest the county series of games. However, in recent years, the championship has followed the same system as the senior grade in Tipperary. Currently (2018) there are 21 teams in the county championship divided up into 6 groups (3 groups with 4 teams, 3 groups with 3 teams). Moneygall GAA
Moneygall GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in County Tipperary in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the North Tipperary divisional championships, although the club is mainly known for hurling. The club represents the parish of Dunkerrin, which includes the villages of Moneygall, Dunkerrin and Barna. History In 1885, a local team called The Honeymounts was formed, named after the townland of Honeymount within the parish. This club's colours were black and amber. John Costigan (hurler)
John Costigan (born 1945) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a right corner-back for the Tipperary senior team. Costigan joined the team during the 1968 championship and was a semi-regular member of the team until he retired from inter-county hurling after the 1972 championship. During that time he won one Munster winners' medal and one National Hurling League winners' medal. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level Costigan played with the Clonakenny club. In retirement from play he served as a Gaelic games administrator, most notably as chairman of the Tipperary County Board. Michael Smith (born 8 November 1940) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician who served as Minister for Defence from 1997 to 2004, Minister for Education from November 1994 to December 1994, Minister for the Environment from 1992 to 1994 and a Minister of State in various governments. Willie Smith (hurler)
William J. Smith (born 1944) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Clonakenny and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Smith first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with a Na Fianna combination and won consecutive Mid Tipperary MAHC titles in 1961 and 1962. At adult level he lined out with Clonakenny and was part of the club's junior team that won the Tipperary JAHC title in 1967. Smith also lined out as a student with University College Dublin and won three Fitzgibbon Cup titles. Smith first appeared at inter-county level as a dual minor in 1962. He was a member of the Tipperary minor hurling team that lost the 1962 All-Ireland minor final to Kilkenny. Paddy Buggy
Paddy Buggy (15 March 1929 – 15 May 2013) was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Slieverue and was a member of the Kilkenny senior inter-county team from 1949 until 1960. Buggy later served as the 27th president of the Gaelic Athletic Association from 1982 until 1985. Playing career Club Born in Slieverue, County Kilkenny, Buggy played his club hurling with his local Slieverue club. He won one senior county title with the club in 1954.
