Clip Smith
Warren P. "Clip" Smith (April 22, 1941 – August 21, 2004) was a Buffalo, New York media personality and newsman. Smith was a sports reporter at WKBW-TV from 1971 until being fired in December 1988, and later returned to radio in Buffalo at WGR and WBEN (AM) as a conservative talk show host and commentator. He was the play-by-play announcer for the University at Buffalo Bulls in the mid-1980s. He is remembered for his "Clipley's Believe It or Don't" segments and the puns and one-liners he worked into his broadcasts. He was killed at age 63 in a car accident in Niagara County, New York. WKBW-TV (channel 7) is a television station in Buffalo, New York, United States, affiliated with ABC. Owned by the E. W. Scripps Company, the station maintains studios at 7 Broadcast Plaza in downtown Buffalo and a transmitter on Center Street in Colden. However, master control and some internal operations are based at the studios of sister station and fellow ABC affiliate WRTV in Indianapolis. WBEN (930 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Buffalo, New York, featuring a talk radio format. Owned by Audacy, Inc., the station serves Western New York, the Niagara Falls region, and parts of Southern Ontario. WBEN's studios are located in Amherst, while the transmitter site is in Grand Island. In addition to a standard analog transmission, WBEN is relayed over WKSE's HD3 digital subchannel, and is available online via Audacy. Lockport is both a city and the town that surrounds it in Niagara County, New York. The city is the Niagara county seat, with a population of 21,165 according to 2010 census figures, and an estimated population of 20,305 as of 2019. Its name derives from a set of Erie Canal locks (Lock Numbers 34 and 35) within the city that were built to allow canal barges to traverse the 60-foot natural drop of the Niagara Escarpment.
