Cleveland Railway Line, Brisbane
The Cleveland railway line is a suburban railway line extending east-southeast from Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It is part of the Queensland Rail City network. History Following the opening of the Wooloongabba Branch railway line from Corinda to Stanley Street in South Brisbane in 1884, calls were made for extending the line to Cleveland to serve the developing farming area. A line was surveyed, and took an indirect route to avoid hilly country and to serve Fort Lytton, a gun emplacement at the south entrance to the Brisbane River, then the major defence installation for the city. The line was opened to Manly in 1888 and extended to the first Cleveland station in 1889. An extension to the second Cleveland station opened in 1897, at which time the first Cleveland station was renamed West Cleveland (later Cleveland Central). Park Road Railway Station
Park Road railway station is the junction station for the Gold Coast and Cleveland lines in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Brisbane suburb of Woolloongabba. It is served by Beenleigh, Cleveland and Gold Coast line services. Immediately south of the station lies a triangle junction with the Cleveland and Fisherman Islands lines branching off. History In September 1930, the standard gauge NSW North Coast line opened to the west of the station. On 12 November 1942, a wartime siding opened at Park Road, followed by a second on 28 February 1944. After falling out of use in 1945, the yard was reactivated in 1949. Lindum Railway Station
Lindum railway station is located next to Iona College, on the Cleveland line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Brisbane suburb of Wynnum West. The location of "Lindum" was once a suburb named for a residential house in the area. In the 1980s, Lindum ceased to exist as a suburb and is now recognised as a locality within the broader suburb of Wynnum West. In November 1996, the Fisherman Islands line to the Port of Brisbane opened to the north of the station. It branches off to the east of the station. Incidents In February 2019, an elderly woman died after being struck by a train while crossing the tracks. Two years later a 32-year-old woman died after her car was struck while on the crossing. Cleveland Railway Station
Cleveland railway station is located on the Cleveland line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the suburb of Cleveland in the Redland City. History In 1889, the Cleveland line was extended from Manly to the original Cleveland station. In 1897, the line was extended to the second Cleveland station. Cleveland station opened as the Raby Bay railway station in 1914. On 1 November 1960, the station closed when the line was truncated to Lota. When the station reopened on 24 October 1987, the former Raby Bay station became the third to carry the name Cleveland. Thorneside Railway Station
Thorneside railway station is located on the Cleveland line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the suburb of Thorneside in Redland City. History In 1889, the Cleveland line was extended from Manly to the original Cleveland station. Thorneside station opened in 1889 as Waterloo. It was closed in 1890 and reopened in 1909 as Ransome's railway siding. In 1912, the station closed again when Ransome's railway siding was relocated over Tingalpa Creek. In 1917, the station reopened under the current name of Thorneside. On 1 November 1960, the station closed when the line was truncated to Lota. The Merivale Bridge is a double track railway bridge crossing the Brisbane River. It crosses the Milton Reach of the river, slightly to the west of the William Jolly Bridge. Exclusively a railway crossing, it is located between the stations of South Brisbane and Roma Street, linking the northern and southern elements of the Queensland Rail City network. Manly Railway Station
Manly railway station is located on the Cleveland line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Brisbane suburb of Manly. History Manly station opened in 1888 as the original terminus of the line. The line was later extended to the original Cleveland station in 1889. In 1992, the original timber station was demolished after becoming infested with termites.
