"Cleopatra, Queen of Denial" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist Pam Tillis. It was released in May 1993 as the third single from her album ''Homeward Looking Angel''. The song reached number 11 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in July 1993. The song was written by Tillis, Bob DiPiero, and Jan Buckingham. Content The song is centered on Egyptian mythology, in which the narrator compares herself to Queen Cleopatra since she's "queen of denial" by her significant other (a play on words of The Nile River). A guitar solo in the chorus takes the melody of the traditional song ''The Streets of Cairo, or the Poor Little Country Maid'', a song traditionally associated with Egyptian culture. Pam Tillis
Pamela Yvonne Tillis (born July 24, 1957) is an American country music singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She is the daughter of country music singer Mel Tillis and ex-wife of songwriter Bob DiPiero. Tillis recorded unsuccessful pop material for Elektra and Warner Records in the 1980s before shifting to country music. In 1989, she had signed to Arista Nashville, entering Top 40 on Hot Country Songs for the first time with "Don't Tell Me What to Do" in 1990. Fletcher Bangs "Biff" Watson is an American guitarist, songwriter, and producer. His musicianship has been a part of recording sessions for many artists. Biography Early years Raised in Chatham, Virginia, Watson learned how to play guitar at age 11. Upon graduation from high school, he hitchhiked to Nashville where he played on demos and showcases, and backing up touring artists Crystal Gayle, Tracy Nelson, and Don Williams. The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses.
