Clemente Spera (Novara (?), c. 1661 – Milan, 1742) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period principally active in Milan. He was a specialist architectural painter who created Capriccio (art), ''capricci'', i.e. architectural fantasies, placing together buildings, archaeological ruins and other architectural elements in fictional and often fantastical combinations together with figures. Sebastiano Ricci
Sebastiano Ricci (1 August 165915 May 1734) was an Italian painter of the late Baroque school of Venice. About the same age as Piazzetta, and an elder contemporary of Tiepolo, he represents a late version of the vigorous and luminous Cortonesque style of grand manner fresco painting. He was the uncle of Marco Ricci (1676 – 1730), who trained with him, and became an innovator in landscape painting. Early years He was born in Belluno, the son of Andreana and Livio Ricci. In 1671, he was apprenticed to Federico Cervelli of Venice. Others claim Ricci's first master was Sebastiano Mazzoni. In 1678, a youthful indiscretion led to an unwanted pregnancy, and ultimately to a greater scandal, when Ricci was accused of attempting to poison the young woman in question to avoid marriage. Bettina Baumgärtel (born 1957) is a German art historian who is head of the painting collection of the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf. She is a leading authority on the art of Angelica Kauffman and founded the Angelika Kauffmann Research Project (AKRP), of which she is the director, in 1990. Bettina Baumgärtel studied art history, archaeology and philosophy at the University of Bonn and the Free University of Berlin. In 1987 she completed her PhD with a dissertation on Angelica Kauffman and the conditions for feminine creativity in the painting of the eighteenth century, supervised by Eduard Trier in Bonn. Novara (, Novarese: ) is the capital city of the province of Novara in the Piedmont region in northwest Italy, to the west of Milan.
