Clemens Doppler
Clemens Doppler (born 6 September 1980) is a beach volleyball player from Austria. He and teammate Peter Gartmayer represented Austria at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Although he qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics, an injury kept him out and he was replaced by Florian Gosch. After the 2008 Summer Olympics, Doppler played with partner Matthias Mellitzer from 2009 until the end of the end of the 2011 season. On 21 October 2011 Doppler and Mellitzer announced their split. Media and the press speculated that Doppler will team up with fellow Beach Volleyballer Alexander Horst who also announced his split with one-year partner Daniel Müllner in October 2011. He and Horst did team up for the 2012 Summer Olympics, where they were eliminated in the preliminary round. Beach Volleyball
Beach volleyball is a team sport played by two teams of two or more players on a sand court divided by a net. Similar to indoor volleyball, the objective of the game is to send the ball over the net and to ground it on the opponent's side of the court. Each team also works in unison to prevent the opposing team from grounding the ball on their side of the court. Teams are allowed up to three touches to return the ball across the net, and individual players may not touch the ball twice consecutively except after a touch off an attempted block. Making a block touch leaves only two more touches before the ball must be hit over. The ball is put in play with a serve—a hit by the server from behind the rear court boundary over the net to the opponents. The receiving team typically uses their three touches to pass the ball, set it up for an attack, and then attack the ball by sending it back over the net. Swatch is a Swiss watchmaker founded in 1983 by Ernst Thomke, Elmar Mock, and Jacques Müller. It is a subsidiary of The Swatch Group. Alexander Horst
Alexander Horst (born 20 December 1982) is a beach volleyball player from Austria. He currently plays on the FIVB World Beach Volleyball Tour with new partner Clemens Doppler. Horst found most success with partner Florian Gosch on the FIVB World Beach Volleyball Tour, however a knee injury forced Florian Gosch into early retirement in autumn 2010. Horst and teammate Florian Gosch represented Austria at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
