English is a West Germanic language of the Indo-European language family, with its earliest forms spoken by the inhabitants of early medieval England. Ellen Clegg
Ellen Clegg (c. 1841–unknown) was an American criminal, active in New York, who specialized in pick pocketing and shoplifting. A close associate of Fredericka Mandelbaum, she was well known to authorities in several major cities along with her husband James "Old Jimmy" Clegg and had an extensive arrest record. She was arrested with Tilly Miller, "Black" Lena Kleinschmidt and four other shoplifters in Boston on December 6, 1876; her picture taken by the Boston Police Department for the "Rogues' Gallery". She was later arrested in the city for pick pocketing two years later and sent to the House of Correction. Returning to New York, she was again arrested with Walter Price (then under the alias Mary Gray) for shoplifting on November 24, 1879. Lee Clegg
Sergeant Lee Clegg (born c. 1969) is a British Army soldier who was convicted of murder for his involvement in the shooting dead of one teenage joyrider in West Belfast, Northern Ireland. His conviction was later overturned. Shooting The shooting took place in West Belfast on 30 September 1990. Clegg, then a private originally from Bradford, England, and his fellow soldiers manning the checkpoint on the Upper Glen Road, fired nineteen bullets into a stolen Vauxhall Astra that passed through their checkpoint travelling at high speed. Clegg fired four of the bullets, the last of which killed 18-year-old passenger Karen Reilly. The driver, 17-year-old Martin Peake, also died at the scene, and the third passenger, Markiewicz Gorman, escaped with minor injuries. Hugh Armstrong Clegg (22 May 1920 – 9 December 1995) was a British academic who was a founder of the "National Board for Prices and Incomes" (1965–71) and later presided over the " Standing Commission on Pay Comparability" set up by James Callaghan in 1979. Clegg was born in Truro. Educated at the Methodist Kingswood School, he rebelled by becoming a Communist for a period in his youth, but gained a scholarship to study Classics at Magdalen College, Oxford University; he then served for five years in the army during the Second World War. William Clegg (cricketer)
William Gavin Clegg (29 June 1869 – 18 May 1949) was an English first-class cricketer. The son of Neville Clegg, he was born at Altrincham in June 1869. He was educated at Winchester College, before going up to Magdalen College, Oxford. While studying at Oxford, Clegg made two appearances in first-class cricket for Oxford University in 1891, appearing against Gentlemen of England and H. Philipson's XI. He scored 35 runs in these matches, in addition to taking 5 wickets with best figures of 3 for 35. After graduating from Oxford, Clegg became a farmer. He served in the First World War in the Cheshire Regiment, being commissioned as a second lieutenant in January 1916. He later served as the High Sheriff of Cheshire in 1932. Sir William Edwin Clegg (21 April 1852 – 22 August 1932) was an English footballer and politician. Football career Born in Sheffield, he was the younger brother of Charles Clegg with whom he played at Sheffield Wednesday. The two were the first brothers to both be capped for England, although they never played in the same match. He was described as being "a safe kick and good half-back" in Charles Alcock's 1875 edition of the ''Football Annual''. After retiring from football through injury, he continued within the game as an administrator and became president of Sheffield Wednesday and vice president of Sheffield and Hallamshire Football Association. Ron "Smokey" Clegg (17 November 192723 August 1990) was an Australian rules footballer in the (then) Victorian Football League. Clegg was recruited from the South Melbourne Under 19's after winning the 1944 Melbourne Boys Football League's best and fairest award and was best on ground in the 1944 grand final for South Melbourne. Richmond were very keen to secure Clegg's signature in 1944, before he settled on South Melbourne.
