The suburb began to build a reputation as an exclusive and upper class area in 1967 when property developer Bruce Small, who became Gold Coast Mayor later that year, convinced a group of wealthy golfers to purchase his 92-acre landholding at Cypress Gardens for $43,240 to build the Surfers Paradise Golf Club. Sir Andrew Bruce Small OStJ (11 December 1895 – 1 May 1980) was an Australian businessman and politician. In Melbourne, he developed Malvern Star bicycles into a household name in Australia, then retired to the Gold Coast, Queensland, where he developed property, and as Mayor of the Gold Coast, promoted the area to Australia and the world as a family friendly holiday destination through the bikini-clad meter maids in Surfers Paradise. Carrara Stadium (known commercially as Metricon Stadium) is a stadium on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, located in the suburb of Carrara. The stadium is primarily used for Australian rules football, serving as the home ground of the Gold Coast Suns, who compete in the Australian Football League. Robina Roos Football Club (nicknamed The Roos) is an Australian rules football club based in Gold Coast, Queensland. The team currently competes in the SEQAFL Div 2. History Robina first formed in 1995 as a break-away from the Burleigh Bombers and played its first game in 1996. The first few years were tough as there was a lot of restrictions in place so that other club's players were not poached. Playing against the likes of Labrador, Broadbeach, Palm Beach and Coolangatta, Robina did struggle and only won 2 senior games in its first 3 seasons.
