Clear Creek (Washington)
Clear Creek is a creek in Snohomish County, Washington. It is a tributary of the Sauk River and enters the river just above the community of Darrington. Course The creek rises in Clear Lake near Granite Pass in the Boulder River Wilderness. It briefly flows east before soon turning north. About after turning north, the creek is joined by one of its largest tributaries, Copper Creek. After receiving Copper Creek, the creek turns northeast. It flows northeast for about until it turns north again at its confluence with another major tributary, Helena Creek. Just above the mouth of Helena Creek, the creek drops over Asbestos Falls. Just below the Helena Creek confluence, the creek is joined by tiny Asbestos Creek, which drops over tall Asbestos Creek Falls just before entering Clear Creek. North Cascades
The North Cascades are a section of the Cascade Range of western North America. They span the border between the Canadian province of British Columbia and the U.S. state of Washington and are officially named in the U.S. and Canada as the Cascade Mountains. Sauk River (Washington)
The Sauk River is a tributary of the Skagit River, approximately long, in northwestern Washington in the United States. It drains an area of the high Cascade Range in the watershed of Puget Sound north of Seattle. The river is a popular destination for fly fishing. It is a National Wild and Scenic River. Its two forks rise in the Cascades in eastern Snohomish County, in the Glacier Peak Wilderness and join to form the mainstem Sauk River at Bedal. From there the river flows northwest from there through a remote section of the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest to Darrington, then north to join the Skagit River from the south at Rockport. Darrington, Washington
Darrington is a town in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. It is located in a North Cascades mountain valley formed by the Sauk and North Fork Stillaguamish rivers. Darrington is connected to nearby areas by State Route 530, which runs along the two rivers towards the city of Arlington, located to the west, and Rockport. It had a population of 1,347 at the 2010 census. Non-indigenous settlement in the area began in 1891 at the site of a Skagit campsite between the two rivers, near the traditional home of the Sauk-Suiattle tribe. Prospectors had arrived in the area during the 1880s while looking for gold and other minerals, but were quickly displaced by the logging industry that would come to dominate Darrington for much of the 20th century. It is located just above the mouth of Helena Creek. The falls are about 55 feet high and drop that in two segments, only one of which is easily seen from the rim of the canyon the falls drop into. To reach the far segment, one would have to descend into the canyon, which is dangerous enough before fording the creek, which would also be dangerous, especially during high water. Reaching the falls requires a moderately difficult bushwhack to the edge of the canyon from just past Asbestos Creek Falls, which is countless times confused with Asbestos Falls. Asbestos Creek Falls
Asbestos Creek Falls is a waterfall on Asbestos Creek, a small tributary of Clear Creek, located just below the mouth of Helena Creek. The falls are thought to stand between 500 and 1000 feet high. The falls are thought to drop around 1000 feet however only the bottom 500 feet, due to the shape of the gorge, can be seen from the base. Also, accessing the falls has become very difficult because of numerous washouts that have occurred along Clear Creek Road. The falls can be seen partially seen from Clear Creek Road from where it crosses Asbestos Creek and views of the upper 500 feet or so of the falls can likely only be attained from the other side of the valley.
