The Clayton State Lakers are the athletic teams that represent Clayton State University, located in Morrow, Georgia, in intercollegiate sports at the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), primarily competing in the Peach Belt Conference since the 1995–96 academic year. Clayton State competes in eleven intercollegiate varsity sports. Men's sports include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, and track and field (both indoor and outdoor); while women's sports include basketball, cross country, soccer, and track and field (both indoor and outdoor). Clayton State University is a public university in Morrow, Georgia. It serves Atlanta metropolitan area, Metro Atlanta and is a selective Senior Unit of the University System of Georgia. The main campus includes of wooded grounds, featuring five lakes and a park-like atmosphere. Peach Belt Conference
The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level. The 11 member institutions are located in the South Atlantic states of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. In addition, five affiliate members participate in one sport each; namely sports not sponsored by their home conferences. Since its inception came in the 1990–91 school year, the Peach Belt has, across all sanctioned sports, produced 30 national champions and additional 27 national finalists. It offers an alternative to both the larger and better-funded Division I and to the scholarship-free environment offered in Division III. Morrow, Georgia
Morrow is a city in Clayton County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Its population was 6,445 at the 2010 census, up from 4,882 in 2000. It is the home of Clayton State University. History The community was named after Radford E. Morrow, the original owner of the town site. Morrow was founded in 1846 with the advent of the railroad into the area. It was incorporated as a city in 1943. NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship
The NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament (officially styled as "Championship" instead of "Tournament") is an annual tournament to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II women's college basketball national champion. Basketball was one of 12 women's sports added to the NCAA championship program for the 1981–82 school year, as the NCAA and Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) sought for sole governance of women's collegiate athletics. The AIAW continued to conduct its established championships; however, after a year of dual women's championships at the national level, the AIAW disbanded. The 2020 Elite Eight was due to be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, AL before the NCAA called off the tournament due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Michigan Tech Huskies Women's Basketball
Michigan Technological University's sports teams are called the Huskies. Kevin Young (born November 17, 1981) is an American basketball coach who is an associate coach for the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has previously played college basketball and was a head coach for Ireland's Super League with the Shamrock Rovers Hoops and the NBA Development League's Utah Flash, Iowa Energy, and Delaware 87ers. He was also an assistant coach for the Utah Valley State College, Oxford College, and the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers. Christopher Klute (born March 5, 1990) is an American soccer player currently without a club. He most recently played for the California United Strikers FC in the National Independent Soccer Association. Janiel Simon (born June 11, 1981) is an Antiguan footballer. Janiel works for the Environmental division of the Antigua and Barbuda Government. He also was instrumental in organising a friendly match between a SAP F.C. side and a touring team of Explorer Scouts from the UK. The final score was: SAP F.C. 7- 5 Gladiator ESU football team.
