Clay Township is one of fourteen townships in Carroll County, Indiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,255 and it contained 463 housing units. Clay Township is part of the Rossville, Indiana school district. History Clay Township was organized in 1831. Geography According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of , of which (or 99.95%) is land and (or 0.05%) is water. The North Fork and Middle Fork of the Wildcat Creek both pass through Clay Township. The Lancaster Bridge, an historic covered bridge erected in 1872, spans the North Fork of the Wildcat Creek east of Owasco. The North Fork is an official Indiana State Scenic River. This is a list of Indiana covered bridges. There are 98 historic wooden covered bridges in the U.S. state of Indiana. Fourteen of these bridges were built before 1870 and represent the most common truss styles (Burr Arch) in Indiana. Parke County bills itself as the covered bridge capital of the world. Combined with six counties that surround it, there are 51 of Indiana’s 98 covered bridges in this small area: Parke County (32), Putnam County (9), Fountain County (3), Vermillion County (3), Montgomery County (2), Owen County (1) and Vigo County (1). The majority, 54, are Burr Arch truss designs, while the next most common truss style is a Howe truss with 23. Ross Township is one of 14 townships in Clinton County, Indiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 2,898 and it contained 1,119 housing units. The township was named for John Ross, a pioneer settler and associate county judge. History Ross was one of Clinton County's original townships created on May 15, 1830. Pyrmont, Indiana
Pyrmont is an unincorporated community in Clay Township, Carroll County, Indiana. History Pyrmont was likely named after Waldeck and Pyrmont, in Germany. An historical marker, erected in 1977 by the Carroll County Historical Society at the principal intersection in Pyrmont gives some of its history: :John Wagner built a dam, race and saw mill about a mile South in 1833 and added a grist mill. He sold to John Fisher who sold to John Fetterhoff who built a large frame mill. Joel Wagoner, James Allen, Elias Morkert, J. J. Cripe, Wm. Gardner, Bert Smoker were later operators. It burned December 7, 1929. Fetterhoff’s Mill Post Office established 1851, was changed to Pyrmont in 1866.
