Clay Smith (cricketer)
Clay James Smith (born 15 January 1971) is a former Bermudian international cricketer who represented the Bermudian national team between 1991 and 2007. He also coached the team from 2015 to 2018. Having debuted for Bermuda in 1991, Smith first came to notice at the 1994 ICC Trophy in Kenya, where he ranked fourth in overall runs scored and helped his team to the semi-finals. He remained one of Bermuda's leading batsmen for over a decade, appearing in another three ICC Trophy tournaments and also in several editions of the West Indian domestic one-day competition (where Bermuda competed as a guest team). In the 1997–98 Red Stripe Bowl, Smith scored two centuries (against the Windward Islands and Jamaica), becoming the first Bermudian to score a List A hundred. He was appointed captain of Bermuda in 2004, and served in the position until the end of 2006, although he missed a number of matches due to injury towards the end of his tenure. Clay Jamieson Smith (September 11, 1914 – March 5, 2002) was an American professional baseball pitcher who appeared in 18 games in Major League Baseball over two seasons for the Cleveland Indians (four games in ) and Detroit Tigers (14 contests in ). A member of the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame, he hurled in one game of the 1940 World Series for the Tigers. During his playing career, he batted and threw right-handed, stood tall, and weighed . Smith was born in Cambridge, in Cowley County, Kansas. He is one of three major leaguers (through 2022) out of Southwestern College of Winfield, Kansas, also in Cowley County. He was on the baseball, basketball, wrestling and track teams in college, and is a member of the college's basketball hall of fame. Clay Smith (born 11 May 1993) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL). Smith was drafted to the Western Bulldogs with the 17th selection in 2011 AFL Draft from the Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup. He was given the #14 jumper, previously worn by Callan Ward, who had moved to at the end of the season prior. Smith made his AFL debut on 1 April 2012 in the opening round of the 2012 AFL season against the West Coast Eagles. Smith was one of the Bulldogs' best players, gathering 13 possessions and kicking 4 goals, before being substituted off the field just before 3 quarter time due to severe cramping. Clay King Smith (July 25, 1970 – May 8, 2001) was an American mass murderer executed by the state of Arkansas for the March 25, 1998, murders of Misty Erwin (age 20), Shelley Sorg (24), Shelley's two children Sean Sorg (5) and Taylor Sorg (3), and babysitter Samantha Rhodes (12) at his home near Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Murders Smith's girlfriend, Misty Erwin, reported that Smith battered her and requested police assistance to move out of the house. However, when police arrived, she withdrew her complaint and decided to stay with Smith. Two days later, her body was found in the house along with a cousin, two small children, and a babysitter. All were shot to death with a rifle. Smith was arrested the day after the bodies were discovered. His capture followed a shootout with authorities near Star City in Lincoln County, Arkansas. Green Clay Smith (July 4, 1826 – June 29, 1895) was a United States soldier and politician. Elected to the Kentucky state house before the American Civil War, he was commissioned as a Union officer when he volunteered, advancing to the rank of brigadier general before he resigned to go to Congress. He was promoted to Major General by brevet on March 13, 1865. He was elected to the US Congress from Kentucky in 1862, representing the Unionist Party and serving until 1866. That year, Smith was appointed as the Territorial Governor of Montana, serving from 1866 to 1869.
