Claw Boys Claw
Claw Boys Claw are a Dutch rock and roll band, formed in Amsterdam. The core members of the band are Peter te Bos (vocals) and John Cameron (guitar). The band released eight full-length albums between 1983 and 1997. After some years of inactivity, the band started playing live again in 2007 and released an album, ''Pajama Day is on 13/07 every 2 years Claw Boys Claw established a reputation for its exuberant and energetic live shows—in the Dutch press, Te Bos is often referred to as a "stage beast." They never attained much commercial success, and a venture into the American market was unsuccessful, but many of their albums are critically acclaimed. They were called one of the most important Dutch bands of the 1980s, received one of the highest awards given to Dutch pop musicians (the BV Popprijs), and are still active as "one of the best Dutch bands." Beginnings Claw Boys Claw was founded in 1983 by guitarist Allard Jolles, at the time guitarist and singer of L'Attentat, tho ...

Angelbite
''Angelbite'' is the fifth studio album by Dutch rock and roll band Claw Boys Claw. The album comes at a transitional time; the band had been let go by Polydor and the two albums released on Megadisc had not been very successful. This is their sole release on the small label Solid. The band changed personnel also: early members Bobbie Rossini (bass) and Marius Schrader (drums) had left the band at the end of 1988, and were replaced by Arno Kooy and Marc Lamb, respectively. This was Kooy's sole recording with Claw Boys Claw; Lamb is still with the band. ''Angelbite'', musically, points to the later "swamp rock" sound the band would adopt. The album was not a great commercial success; it never charted, nor did any of the two singles from it. John Cale was to have produced the album; he had met the band while they were in the United States at the New Music Seminar, summer 1988. In the end, ''Angelbite'' was produced by Steve Parker, who had earlier produced The Fall and Mathilde Sa ...

Down In The Boondocks (song)
"Down in the Boondocks" is a song written by Joe South, and first recorded by American artist Billy Joe Royal as his debut single. It was a hit in 1965, reaching No. 9 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. In the UK, it hit No. 38 on the ''Record Retailer'' chart. In Canada, it reached No. 1 on the ''RPM'' chart, on August 9, 1965. The song is the title track of Royal's second album, '' Down in the Boondocks''. Content The song is sung from the perspective of a self-proclaimed "boy from down in the boondocks." He sings of a girl who lives nearby, for whom he feels love and steals away with occasionally. The people who live or are born in the boondocks are suggested to be a lower class than those in the city. The girl's father is the singer's boss, which, along with the social division, prevents him from proclaiming his love and connecting with her, despite their shared feelings (which is the basis for the line "but I don't dare knock on her door/for her daddy is my boss man"). ...

Jingle Bells
"Jingle Bells" is one of the best-known and most commonly sung American songs in the world. It was written by James Lord Pierpont (1822–1893) and published under the title "The One Horse Open Sleigh" in September 1857. It has been claimed that it was originally written to be sung by a Sunday school choir for Thanksgiving, or as a drinking song. Although it has no original connection to Christmas, it became associated with winter and Christmas music in the 1860s and 1870s, and it was featured in a variety of parlor song and college anthologies in the 1880s. It was first recorded in 1889 on an Edison cylinder; this recording, believed to be the first Christmas record, is lost, but an 1898 recording also from Edison Records survives. History Composition James Lord Pierpont who was the uncle of JP Morgan, wrote "One Horse Open Sleigh" in 1857 and claimed to be a drinking song (it was always performed in blackface) It didn't become a Christmas song until decades after it was f ...

Venus (Shocking Blue Song)
"Venus" is a song by Dutch rock band Shocking Blue, initially released as a single in the Netherlands in the summer of 1969. Written by Robbie van Leeuwen, the song topped the charts in nine countries. The song has been covered dozens of times by many artists. In 1986, English girl group Bananarama covered "Venus" for their third studio album, '' True Confessions'', with the single reaching number one in six countries. The composition has been featured in numerous films, television shows and commercials. Composition and recording The song was written by Robbie van Leeuwen, Shocking Blue's guitarist, sitarist and background vocalist. Van Leeuwen wrote new lyrics set to music based on "The Banjo Song" by Tim Rose and the Big 3, which is in turn lyrically a modification of the 19th century song "Oh! Susanna" by Stephen Foster. Influences from other songs include the opening guitar riff that is similar to The Who's " Pinball Wizard". The song was recorded on a two-track machine in ...

Locomotive Breath
"Locomotive Breath" is a song by British progressive rock band Jethro Tull from their 1971 album, '' Aqualung''. Written as a comment on population growth, "Locomotive Breath" was meant to replicate the chugging rhythm of a train. In addition to its release on ''Aqualung'', "Locomotive Breath" saw two different single releases and has been a live favorite. It is one of Jethro Tull's best-known songs. Background Lyrically, "Locomotive Breath" was inspired by Anderson's concern regarding overpopulation. He explained, "It was my first song that was perhaps on a topic that would be a little more appropriate to today's world. It was about the runaway train of population growth and capitalism, it was based on those sorts of unstoppable ideas. We’re on this crazy train, we can’t get off it. Where is it going? Bearing in mind, of course, when I was born in 1947, the population of planet earth was slightly less than a third of what it is today, so it should be a sobering thought that ...

Pajama Day
''Pajama Day'' is a 2008 album by the Dutch rock band Claw Boys Claw, their first album since 1997's ''Will-O-The-Wisp''. Background After a long period of inactivity, there were rumors in the spring of 2006 that the Claw Boys Claw were working on a new album and wanted to start touring again. According to singer Peter Te Bos, he and guitarist John Cameron had written some seventy songs since 2002. Some of those songs were released in February 2008 on ''Pajama Day'', on the independent label Play It Again Sam. Reviews The album was welcomed by critics, who hailed their lyrical maturity, honesty, and musical ability. Most critics noted that the Claw Boys Claw had dialed down the volume in comparison to their earlier records, but still praised the album. Belgian weekly ''HUMO'' said that the album contained the most exciting rock songs they had heard in years, praised Cameron's guitar work, and gave it four out of five stars. While the reviewer from ''De Recensent'' found only three ...

Will-O-The-Wisp (Claw Boys Claw Album)
In folklore, a will-o'-the-wisp, will-o'-wisp or ''ignis fatuus'' (, plural ''ignes fatui''), is an atmospheric ghost light seen by travellers at night, especially over bogs, swamps or marshes. The phenomenon is known in English folk belief, English folklore and much of European folklore by a variety of names, including jack-o'-lantern, friar's lantern, hinkypunk and is said to mislead travellers by resembling a flickering lamp or lantern. In literature, will-o'-the-wisp metaphorically refers to a hope or goal that leads one on, but is impossible to reach, or something one finds strange or sinister. Wills-o'-the-wisp appear in folk tales and traditional legends of numerous countries and cultures; notable wills-o'-the-wisp include St. Louis Light in Saskatchewan, the Spooklight in Southwestern Missouri and Northeastern Oklahoma, the Marfa lights of Texas, the Naga fireballs on the Mekong in Thailand, the Paulding Light in Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the Hessdalen light ...
