Claus en Kaan Architecten was a Dutch architecture firm founded in 1987 by Felix Claus and Kees Kaan, led together with partners Vincent Panhuysen and Dikkie Scipio. History Claus was born in 1956 in Arnheim and Kaan was born in Breda, in 1961. They both graduated from Delft University of Technology in 1987. They formed the firm of Claus en Kaan Architecten in 1987. Claus en Kaan designed the master plan of the IJburg district of Amsterdam and later moved their offices to a building they designed in the district. Kees Kaan and Felix Claus once stated that their ambition was to extinguish the schism between low practice and high theory, between architecture that serves its immediate objective and architecture that speaks over the heads of its users to colleagues and critics. Vries, Drenthe
Vries is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 8 km north of Assen. Vries was a separate municipality until 1998, when it was merged with Eelde and Zuidlaren into a new municipality called Tynaarlo. History The village was first mentioned in 1139 as Vrees. The etymology is unclear. Vries is an ''esdorp'' which developed in the Early Middle Ages. The old village structure is still visible. The Dutch Reformed church dates from the 12th century. IJburg () is a residential neighbourhood under construction in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is situated in the IJmeer and is being built on artificial islands which have been raised from the lake. Gerrit Rietveld (24 June 1888 – 25 June 1964) was a Dutch furniture designer and architect. Early life Rietveld was born in Utrecht on 24 June 1888 as the son of a joiner. He left school at 11 to be apprenticed to his father and enrolled at night school before working as a draughtsman for C. J. Begeer, a jeweller in Utrecht, from 1906 to 1911.
