Claudio Morel
Claudio Marcelo Morel Rodríguez (born 2 February 1978) is a Paraguayan former footballer. He holds the player record for Copa Sudamericano wins with three - with San Lorenzo in 2002, and Boca Juniors in 2004 and 2005. He also played as a left back for the Paraguay national team. He is the son of ex-Paraguayan footballer Eugenio Morel. Career Club career San Lorenzo Morel Rodríguez started his career in Argentina with San Lorenzo in the Primera División. In the 2000–01 season he won the Clausura with San Lorenzo, and in 2001 he helped them win the Copa Mercosur, beating Brazilian club Flamengo in the final. He scored his first goal for the club on 5 October 2002 in a 2–1 win over Newell's Old Boys at the Estadio Pedro Bidegain. He won the 2002 Copa Sudamericana with the club, beating Atlético Nacional of Colombia 4–0 in the final in November 2002. The 2002 Copa Sudamericana was the inaugural Copa Sudamericana, a club association football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. It took place between August 28 and December 11. After the failure in creating a Pan-American Cup to be played among teams from the entire American continent, CONMEBOL decided to create another tournament bearing the continent's name. Nine association's clubs entered the first competition, with one not sending a representative; Brazilian clubs did not participate due to the late organization of the tournament and schedule conflicts. The first match of the competition took place between Venezuelan sides Nacional Táchira and Monagas in San Cristóbal, Venezuela. The Copa Mercosur (, pt, Copa Mercosul , "Mercosur Cup") was a football competition played from 1998 to 2001 by the traditional top clubs from Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile. The competition was created by CONMEBOL to generate TV money to the participating teams, but it went beyond and ended up, together with the Copa Merconorte, as natural replacement to the CONMEBOL Cup. Eugenio Félix Morel Bogado (born 2 February 1950) is a retired professional footballer. He has been characterized as a very fast, talented left-footed player who scored many goals playing the left forward position. Childhood and youth Morel was seven years old when his family decided to go to Argentina in 1957. With other hopes in the great Buenos Aires, he started to practice football which eventually will become his living for many years to come.
