Claudio Liverziani
Claudio Liverziani (born 4 March 1975) is an Italian former professional baseball player who competed in Minor League Baseball and for the Italian national team. Liverziani made his professional debut in Italy at 16 years old before signing with the Seattle Mariners. In 1997 and 1998, Liverziani played for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in the Midwest League. He was released by the Mariners organization on or about April 1, 1999. He returned to Italy in 1999 and played in the Italian Baseball League until 2016, primarily for Bologna. In 2009, he recorded his 1,000th hit in the Italian league against Abe Alvarez. He was the seventh player to reach that mark. In December 2009, the Italian National Olympic Committee announced that Liverziani would be banned for two years due to a drug offense. The 2006 World Baseball Classic (WBC) was the inaugural tournament between national baseball teams that included players from Major League Baseball. It was held from March 3 to 20 in stadiums that are in and around Tokyo, Japan; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Lake Buena Vista, Florida; Phoenix, Arizona; Scottsdale, Arizona; Anaheim, California; and San Diego, California. The Baseball World Cup was an international tournament where national baseball teams from around the world competed. It was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation (IBAF). Along with the World Baseball Classic, it was one of two active tournaments considered by the IBAF to be a major world championship. 2001 Baseball World Cup
The 2001 Baseball World Cup (BWC) was the 34th international Men's amateur baseball tournament. The tournament was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation, which titled it the Amateur World Series from the 1938 tournament through the 1986 AWS. The tournament was held, for the first time, in Taiwan, from 6 to 18 November. Cuba defeated the United States in the final, winning its 23rd title. There were 16 participating countries, split into two groups, with the first four of each group qualifying for the finals.
