Clathrina Osculum
''Clathrina'' is a genus of calcareous sponge in the family Clathrinidae. Several species formerly in ''Clathrina'' were transferred to the newly erected genera ''Arturia (sponge), Arturia'', ''Ernstia'', ''Borojevia'', and ''Brattegardia'' in 2013. The name is derived from the Latin word "''clathratus''" meaning "latticed". Description Species of ''Clathrina'' have a tubular organization as all species of the family Clathrinidae, with the cormus composed of anastomosed tubes. The skeleton contains spicule (sponge), spicules in the form of triactines and/or tetractines, sometimes with diactines, tripods and tetrapods as well. The choanoderm is usually flat, never forming folds when the sponge is extended. Clathrina Clathrus
''Clathrina clathrus'' is a species of calcareous sponge belonging to the family Clathrinidae. This yellow (occasionally white) sponge, up to 10 cm in diameter, usually appears cushion-shaped at a distance (its close relative '' Clathrina coriacea'' is normally flatter in appearance). Close-up the sponge can be seen to consist of a tangled mass of tubes (these tubes are thicker and less tightly knit than in ''C. coriacea'' and there is no osculum as found in that species). Like ''C. coriacea'', the spicules are exclusively three-pointed ''triactines''.
