Classified (1925 Film)
''Classified'' is a 1925 American silent drama film directed by Alfred Santell and produced by and starring Corinne Griffith. It was based on a novel by Edna Ferber and distributed through First National Pictures. The film was remade as '' Hard to Get'' by First National (subsidiary by Warner Brothers) in 1929 as an early talkie for Dorothy Mackaill, a Corinne Griffith rival at First National. Plot As described in a film magazine review, a telephone operator in the classified advertisement department of a metropolitan daily newspaper longs to get away from her drab surroundings and onto Fifth Avenue. She accepts many invitations from men to ride down the avenue with them in their cars, but up to the time she meets one rich young man is successful in evading their advances. Then she meets a handsome chap who drives a flivver, and, despite its poor condition, is interested in him nevertheless. Alfred Santell
Alfred Allen Santell (1895–1981), was an American film director and film producer. Santell directed over 60 films, beginning in 1917, most of which were two-reel comedy short subjects for Hal Roach and other productions companies. Taking up feature films from about 1924, Santell worked for several major studios. In 1934, he was married to actress Jane N. Keithley; they remained married until her death. He left the business in 1947 after a contract dispute with Republic Studios. Santell died on June 19, 1981, in Salinas, California. Jack Mulhall
John Joseph Francis Mulhall (October 7, 1887 – June 1, 1979) was an American film actor beginning in the silent film era who successfully transitioned to sound films, appearing in over 430 films in a career spanning 50 years. Early years Mulhall was born in Wappingers Falls, New York. He was one of six children born to an Irish father and a Scottish mother. He began helping with carnival acts when he was 14 years old. Career Before acting in films, Mulhall worked in legitimate theater, musical comedy, and vaudeville. He also worked as a model for magazine illustrators. His first film appearance (other than as an extra) was in '' The Fugitive'' (1910). The Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research (WCFTR) is a major archive of motion picture, television, radio, and theater research materials. Located in the headquarters building of the Wisconsin Historical Society in Madison, Wisconsin, the WCFTR holds over three hundred collections from motion picture, television, and theater writers, producers, actors, designers, directors, and production companies. George Sidney (born Sammy Greenfield; 18 March 1876 – 29 April 1945) was a Hungarian-born American comedian and film actor. Julie Bishop (born Jacqueline Brown; August 30, 1914 – August 30, 2001), previously known as Jacqueline Wells, was an American film and television actress. Edythe Chapman (October 8, 1863 – October 15, 1948) was an American stage and silent film actress. Career Born in Rochester, New York, Chapman began her stage career as early as 1898 when she appeared in New York City in ''The Charity Ball''. She performed at the Shubert Theater in Brooklyn in a production of ''The Light Eternal'' in 1907. The play was a romantic drama of Imperial Rome which was supported by a cast of approximately 100 people.
