Clash!
''Clash!'' is an American comedy game show which aired on Ha! from May 1, 1990 to March 31, 1991, and on Comedy Central (Ha!'s successor) from April 1 to December 28. The show was produced and hosted by Billy Kimball, and the theme song was composed by Carter Burwell. Episodes were broadcast weekdays at 10:30 AM and 6:30 PM. Format ''Clash!'' was presented in an absurdist quiz show format in which two teams of three players each competed for prizes. Contestants were selected based on criteria such as occupation, ethnicity, religion, etc. and each team would represent one half of a rivalry. For example, an episode might pit nudists against fashion designers, librarians against noisy people, or vegetarians against butchers. Billy Kimball
Billy Kimball (born July 8, 1959) is an American writer and producer. He was a co-executive producer on the acclaimed HBO series ''Veep''. Personal life He was born in New York City, attended Trinity School, and graduated from Harvard College where he was an editor of the ''Harvard Lampoon''. He is currently married to the former Alexandra Manuela Vargas Hamilton and has two daughters and a son. Career Kimball began his career writing for the HBO series ''Not Necessarily the News''. He was the host and executive producer of the satiric game show ''Clash!'' and the co-host (with Denis Leary) of the talk show ''Afterdrive'' both on the Ha! Network, a predecessor of Comedy Central. Ha!: TV Comedy Network (commonly known as Ha!) was a short-lived American pay television channel owned by Viacom; it was one of the first American all-comedy channels available in basic-tier television offers. Launched on April 1, 1990, at 7 p.m. ET, it competed with another startup comedy-oriented cable channel, HBO-owned The Comedy Channel. In 1991, the two channels merged to form Comedy Central. Background MTV Networks had carved out a niche for itself in the cable programming marketplace throughout the 1980s with its flagship networks MTV and Nickelodeon. Carter Burwell
Carter Benedict Burwell (born November 18, 1954) is an American film composer. He has consistently collaborated with the Coen brothers, having scored most of their films. Burwell has also scored three of Todd Haynes's films, three of Spike Jonze's films, and all the films of Martin McDonagh. He has received Academy Awards nominations for Best Original Score for Haynes's '' Carol'' (2015) and McDonagh's '' Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri'' (2017). Early life and education Burwell was born in New York City, the son of Natalie (née Benedict), a math teacher, and Charles Burwell, who founded Thaibok Fabrics, Ltd.
