Clarrie Vontom
Clarence Herbert Vontom (10 June 1914 – 14 October 2000) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Vontom was educated at Wesley College and captained Collegians in the Victorian Amateur Football Association. A rover, he was already 24 when he began his VFL career. In 1939, his first season at St Kilda, Vontom spent much of his time in the forward pocket and was his club's third leading goal-kicker with 28 goals. When Frank Kelly was called away on war service, early in the 1944 season, Vontom took over as captain and remained in charge the following year. Richmond is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Yarra local government area. Brighton Football Club
Brighton Football Club was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). The club was based in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton, and was nicknamed the Penguins. After suffering financial hardship throughout the 1950s, Brighton moved to Caulfield and became the Caulfield Bears in the early to mid-1960s. History An advertisement in '' The Argus'' on 8 June 1859 announced a meeting to be held on the 9th of that month, at the Devonshire Hotel, to form the Brighton Football Club. There are references to an active Brighton Park club in 1867, and Brighton Football club in 1872, 1878, 1882 and 1883. Those clubs may or may not have been connected. The 1944 VFL season was the 48th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. All twelve of the league's clubs competed, with returning after two years in recess due to wartime travel restrictions. The season ran from 6 May until 30 September, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Fitzroy Football Club for the eighth and final time in its history, after it defeated by 15 points in the VFL Grand Final. Francis James Kelly (23 December 1910 – 6 July 1982) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood, Melbourne, Essendon and St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Michael Joseph Kelly (1892-1953), and Eleanor Mary Kelly (1892-1977), née Caroll, Francis James Kelly was born at Northcote, Victoria on 23 December 1910. Victorian Amateur Football Association
The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) is the largest senior community Australian rules football competition in Victoria. It consists of seven senior men's and women's divisions ranging from Premier to Division 4. In addition there are U19's sections and five Thirds sections, primarily made up of either clubs only able to field one team, or clubs from higher sections that can field a third team after their seniors and reserves. The league operates a double promotion and relegation system between sections with various rules dictating which section clubs can play in.
