Clarrie Earl
Clarence Joseph Earl (3 April 1913 – 31 July 1996) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1953 until 1973. He was a member of the Labor Party (ALP). Earl was born in Heddon Greta and was the son of a coal-miner. He was educated at Christian Brothers' High School, Lewisham and initially worked as a farmhand on sheep stations. He attended Sydney Teachers College in 1937 and 1938 and worked as a teacher between 1939 and 1940 and between 1944 and 1953. Between 1940 and 1944 he served with the 2nd Australian Imperial Force and was wounded at Tobruk. Earl was elected to parliament as the member for the new and notionally safe Labor seat of Fairfield at the 1953 state election. Earl retained the seat at the next 2 elections and transferred to the new and equally safe seat of Bass Hill at the 1962. Jack Ferguson
Laurie John Ferguson (4 September 1924 – 17 September 2002) was an Australian politician and member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch). He served in Neville Wran's state government as the Deputy Premier of New South Wales from 1976 to 1984. Early life Born in the inner Sydney suburb of Zetland, Ferguson was educated at Granville Convent and Marist Brothers College, Parramatta, both Catholic schools. After leaving school he was variously a farmhand, textile worker, builder's labourer and bricklayer and was an organiser for the Building Workers' Industrial Union. The New South Wales Legislative Council, often referred to as the upper house, is one of the two chambers of the parliament of the Australian state of New South Wales. The other is the Legislative Assembly. Both sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. It is normal for legislation to be first deliberated on and passed by the Legislative Assembly before being considered by the Legislative Council, which acts in the main as a house of review. The Legislative Council has 42 members, elected by proportional representation in which the whole state is a single electorate. Members serve eight-year terms, which are staggered, with half the Council being elected every four years, roughly coinciding with elections to the Legislative Assembly. Neville Wran
Neville Kenneth Wran, (11 October 1926 – 20 April 2014) was an Australian politician who was the Premier of New South Wales from 1976 to 1986. He was the national president of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) from 1980 to 1986 and chairman of both the Lionel Murphy Foundation and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) from 1986 to 1991. Early years Wran was born in the Sydney suburb of Paddington, the eighth and last child of Joseph Wran and his wife Lillian (née Langley). He was educated at Nicholson Street Public School, Balmain, Fort Street Boys High and the University of Sydney, where he was a member of the Liberal Club, and from which he gained a Bachelor of Laws in 1948. Elections for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly were held in the state of New South Wales, Australia, on Saturday 17 November 1973. The result was a win for the Liberal- Country Party coalition under Sir Robert Askin, which had been in office since 1965. As of 2019, this was the last time the Coalition won a fourth-term in New South Wales.
