Clarendon is a city in Donley County, Texas, United States. Its population was 2,026 at the 2010 census. The county seat of Donley County, Clarendon is located on U.S. Highway 287 in the Texas Panhandle, east of Amarillo. History Clarendon, established in 1878, was one of the three original Panhandle settlements, the other two being Mobeetie and Tascosa. Clarendon was relocated after its original location was bypassed by the Fort Worth and Denver Railway. The town founder was a Methodist clergyman, L.H. Carhart, who envisioned a "sobriety settlement" in contrast to typical boomtowns of that era. Clarendon acquired the sobriquet "Saints Roost" from local cowboys, hence the unusual name of the Clarendon museum, the Saints' Roost Museum. Briscoe County, Texas
Briscoe County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,435. Its county seat is Silverton. The county was created in 1876 and later organized in 1892. It is named for Andrew Briscoe, a soldier during the Texas Revolution. At one time, the large JA Ranch, founded by Charles Goodnight and John George Adair, reached into Briscoe County. After he left the JA, Goodnight owned the Quitaque Ranch. Armstrong County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. It is in the Texas Panhandle and its county seat is Claude. As of the 2020 census, its population was 1,848. Armstrong County is included in the Amarillo metropolitan area. The county was formed in 1876 and later organized in 1890. It was named for one of several Texas pioneer families named Armstrong. Howardwick is a city in Donley County, Texas, United States. Its population was 402 at the 2010 census. Geography Howardwick is located northwest of the center of Donley County at (35.033862, â100.909094). It is on the north side of Greenbelt Reservoir, an impoundment on the Salt Fork Red River. Texas State Highway 70 runs past the eastern side of the city, leading south to Clarendon, the county seat, and north to Interstate 40.
