Clarence Roos
The Clarence Football Club, nicknamed ''The Kangaroos'' (and usually referred to as simply "The Roos"), is an Australian rules football club playing in the Tasmanian State League, based in Bellerive, Tasmania. Before 1947, they existed as Bellerive Football Club. The Club play their home games at Blundstone Arena (formerly Bellerive Oval), Hobart's Test Cricket ground, they share the facilities with Tasmania's cricket team, the Tasmanian Tigers. History Clarence joined the Tasmanian Football League in 1947 on a two-year probationary period from the Southern District Football Association, later being granted permanent status on 7 August 1950, and continued to participate in the league until it was disbanded in December 2000. New Norfolk Eagles
The New Norfolk District Football Club, nicknamed ''The Eagles'', is an Australian rules football club currently playing in the Southern Football League, in Tasmania, Australia. History Origins The club was founded in 1878 with the first premiership won in 1891 under the name "Derwent Football Club", which would last until the late 1890s. With the "New Norfolk" name the team won the Southern Country Championship in 1904, the Brown Trophy (1906), the Ellis Dean (1908–1909) and the Corumbene Trophy (1910, 1913). World War I ceased the club activity. In 1920 New Norfolk defeated Molesworth to win the Derwent Valley Football Association Premiership. David Donato (footballer)
David Donato (born 7 September 1970) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the Australian Football League (AFL). Donato was taken at pick three in the 1990 AFL Draft, behind Stephen Hooper and fellow Tasmanian James Cook. Like them, Donato had only a brief league career, with all his games coming in the second half of the 1991 season, from which he averaged 12 disposals. Terry Cashion
Terence Robert Cashion (7 April 1921 – 8 October 2011) was an award-winning Australian rules footballer from Tasmania who played numerous representative matches for the state and also played for South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Early life and junior career Terry was born to parents Albert and Mary Cashion (née Clements) in April 1921 when the family lived in Goulburn Street, North Hobart. Cashion first began to come under notice as a player during his junior career with Buckingham. Senior career in Tasmania A rover, he had started his senior career with New Town in the TANFL in 1939 and played there until the end of the 1941 season. Ian Callinan (footballer)
Ian Callinan (born 20 December 1982) is a former professional Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League, playing with the Adelaide Crows. He was the league's smallest player during his career, standing at only 172 cm. He played as both a midfielder and a small forward during his career. Playing career Junior Callinan played his junior football in Tasmania, initially at Rokeby, before joining Lauderdale as an Under-16 and Clarence as an Under-18. Jack Bennett (footballer, Born 1920)
Jack Bennett (21 June 1920 – 26 May 1997) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1940s. From the eastern suburbs, Bennett played in the Eastern Suburban Football Association until 1937, then joined Camberwell in the Victorian Football Association in 1938. He played for Camberwell for two years, and attracted the attention of five VFL clubs, before signing with Carlton for the 1940 season. Bennett played eight seasons with Carlton as a member of the ruck and with his solid build liked to crash his way through packs. He played in Carlton's 1945 premiership team and was one of the best afield in their 1947 premiership in which he helped out in defence. The 1947 VFL Grand Final was the final VFL game of his career. Daniel John Archer (born 26 October 1991) is an Australian rules football player who played for St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) and North Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Colin Alexander (12 April 1970) is a former Australian rules footballer who was recruited from the Clarence Football Club in Tasmania to play in the Victorian Football League. He played 24 games for Collingwood between 1989 and 1991, and after a lack of opportunities and injuries at Collingwood, he moved to the Brisbane Bears and played five games from 1992 to 1993. His best VFL/AFL season was his debut season, 1989. He played 14 games and kicked 18 goals, with his best game being a career high four goals in a round 6 match against Melbourne at the MCG. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990. Colin Garland
Colin Garland (born 28 April 1988) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Beginning his playing years at the North Hobart in the SFL in Tasmania, Garland was recruited by the Demons from the TAC Cup side Tassie Mariners at pick No. 46 in the 2006 AFL Draft. Playing for the Demons as an athletic key position player, Garland wore the No. 20 guernsey. He became the first player since the late Troy Broadbridge to wear this jumper, after it was retired for the previous two years (2005–2006).
