Clarence Ray Allen (January 16, 1930 – January 17, 2006) was an American criminal and proxy murder, proxy killer who was executed in 2006 at the age of 76 by lethal injection at San Quentin State Prison in California for the murders of three people. Allen was the second-oldest inmate at the time to be executed in the United States since 1976. Allen was already serving a life sentence for one murder when he was convicted of organizing the killing of three more people from prison, including a witness who had testified against him. His lawyers declared that "he presents absolutely no danger at this point, as incapacitated as he is. There's no legitimate state purpose served by executing him. It would be gratuitous punishment." They argued that his execution would constitute cruel and unusual punishment and requested that he be granted clemency by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, which was refused. Clarence Emir Allen
Clarence Emir Allen (September 8, 1852 – July 9, 1932) was a U.S. Representative from Utah. Born in Girard Township, Pennsylvania, Allen attended the district school and Girard (Pennsylvania) Academy. He studied law. He graduated from Western Reserve College, then at Hudson, Ohio, graduating in 1877 Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, Allen married Corinne Marie Tuckerman, where together they had seven children—five girls, one of whom died in infancy, and two boys. Their daughter Florence E. Allen, became the first woman to serve on a state supreme court, the Ohio Supreme Court, and first woman judge to serve on a federal court, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Another daughter, Esther Allen Gaw, served as the Dean of Women at Ohio State University. Their two sons lost their lives due to World War I. Clarence Roderic Allen (February 15, 1925 – January 21, 2021) was an American geologist who studied seismology. Career He was a graduate of Reed College (B.A., 1949) and the California Institute of Technology (M.S., 1951; Ph.D., 1954). Allen was President of the Seismological Society of America in 1975 and the Geological Society of America. He was a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Geophysical Union, and the Geological Society of America. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1975. Allen was a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering since 1976. Allen received the first G.K. Gilbert Award in Seismic Geology and in 1995 he received the Medal of the Seismological Society of America.
