Claremont (; born November 25, 1950) is a British-born American comic book writer and novelist, known for his 17-year stint on ''Uncanny X-Men'' from 1975 to 1991, far longer than that of any other writer,Claremont, Chris. Edward Stopford Claremont
General Edward Stopford Claremont CB (23 January 1819 – 16 July 1890) was a British soldier who was the United Kingdom's first military attaché, holding the post in Paris for 25 years. Birth Stopford Claremont was born in Paris with the name Edward Charles John Stopford, the illegitimate son of Lieutenant General Hon. Sir Edward Stopford and Anaïs Pauline Nathalie Aubert, known as Mademoiselle Anaïs, an actress in the Comédie-Française. His paternal grandfather was James Stopford, 2nd Earl of Courtown. James Stopford, 3rd Earl of Courtown refused to allow him to use the sole name of Stopford because of his illegitimate status and so he was naturalised in Britain by private act of Parliament in 1836 with the name of Edward Stopford Claremont. Career Stopford Claremont entered the British Army in 1838 as an Ensign in the Royal Regiment of Foot, promoted to Lieutenant in 1841 and Captain in the Royal Canadian Rifle Regiment in 1845. Irene Claremont de Castillejo (born in London, 1885 – died in London 1967) was a writer and Jungian analyst. She is remembered especially for her posthumously published classic text, ''Knowing Woman: A Feminine Psychology'', (1973). Biography Irene Claremont de Castillejo was a graduate of Cambridge University in History and Economics. In 1922 she married the jurist and professor of education, . They went to live in Spain in her husband's home in Madrid, 'Olivar de Castillejo', at ChamartĂn, presently known as the 'Olivar de Castillejo Foundation'. They had four children, Jacinta, Leonardo, David and Sorrel. Claremont worked for the Australia Post from 1988 to 2017 and made sketches while delivering mail. He became known as 'the painting postie' in media. Early life and education Claremont was born on 3 May 1965 in Sydney. He attended Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School. While at school he worked at Sydney's Artflow Graphics studio but decided to study Visual Arts instead of Graphic Design and entered Sydney College of the Arts where he studied from 1983 to 1985. Claremont displayed his works in a group exhibition of 4 painters from the College in 1985, earning a positive review from The Sydney Morning Herald's art critic John McDonald. Between 1985 and 1987 he travelled throughout Europe, the Middle East and North America, staying in Canada for two years.
