Clare Thompson (born 10 June 1963) is an Australian former professional tennis player. Thompson spent the early years of her career in the United States, playing college tennis for the United States International University, which was based in San Diego. 1988 Australian Open – Women's Singles
Steffi Graf defeated Chris Evert in the final, 6–1, 7–6(7–3) to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1988 Australian Open. It was her first step towards completing the first, and so far only Grand Slam (tennis)#Golden Slam, Golden Slam in the history of pedestrian tennis. Hana Mandlíková was the defending champion, but was defeated by Graf in the quarterfinals. Eva Bes Ostáriz (born 14 January 1973) is a former professional tennis player from Spain. She won a total of six singles and 29 doubles titles on the International Tennis Federation, ITF Circuit during her career. On 4 March 2002, she reached a singles ranking high of world No. 90. She had moderate success in singles, winning three career Women's Tennis Association (WTA) titles as well as reaching two Grand Slam quarterfinals and a top-30 ranking, but she had been far more successful in doubles.
