Clare Horan Cawley (1874 – December 26, 1921) was an American pianist. Early life and education Clare Horan was born in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Patrick J. Horan and Mary A. Garvey Horan. All of her grandparents were born in Ireland. Her father was a businessman, born in Ireland. Her uncle was Eugene A. Garvey, the Roman Catholic bishop of Altoona. She studied piano in Scranton with Professor E. E. Southworth, before pursuing further training in New York City with Charles Lee Tracy. Dunmore, Pennsylvania
Dunmore is a borough (Pennsylvania), borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States, adjoining Scranton, Pennsylvania, Scranton. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania and was settled in 1835 and incorporated in 1862. Extensive anthracite, anthracite coal, brick, stone, and silk interests had led to a rapid increase in the population from 8,315 in 1890 to 23,086 in 1940. The population was 14,042 in the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. History Dunmore was settled in 1835 and incorporated in 1862. The first white person to set foot on Dunmore soil was Nicolaus Zinzendorf, Count Zinzendorf of Saxony, in 1742, as a missionary to the native people who were Munsee-speaking Lenape, Delawares. The territory now encompassing Dunmore was purchased from the natives in 1754 by the Susquehanna Company of Connecticut and became the township of Providence. Theodor Leschetizky (sometimes spelled Leschetitzky, pl, Teodor Leszetycki; 22 June 1830 – 14 November 1915 was an Austrian-Polish pianist, professor, and composer born in Landshut in the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, then a crown land of Austria-Hungary. Life Theodor Leschetizky was born on 22 June 1830 at the estate of the family of Count Potocki in Landshut, Austrian Galicia. Joseph Leschetizky, his father, was a gifted pianist and music teacher of Viennese birth. His mother Thérèse von Ullmann was a gifted singer of German origin. His father gave him his first piano lessons and then took him to Vienna to study with Carl Czerny. She was noted for the flexibility and wide range of her voice.
