Clare Azzopardi
Clare Azzopardi (5 July 1977) is a Maltese author who writes for both adults and younger readers. Life Born in St. Julian's, Malta, she eventually went on to study at the University of Malta and then received a master's degree in literacy from the University of Sheffield. She is the head of Department of Maltese at G. F. Abela Junior College. Works Azzopardi’s poetry and short stories, written in Maltese, have appeared in various anthologies. Her work has appeared in translation in various literary periodicals, including ''In Focus'', ''Transcript'', ''Words without Borders'', ''West 47'', ''Lettre International'' (Hungary) and ''Kulturas Forms''. In 2005, Azzopardi published ''Others, Across'', two short stories translated into English, and, in 2006, a collection of short stories in Maltese, ''Il-Linja l-Ħadra'' ("The Green Line"). Maltese ( mt, Malti, links=no, also ''L-Ilsien Malti'' or ''''), is a Semitic language derived from late medieval Sicilian Arabic with Romance superstrata spoken by the Maltese people. It is the national language of Malta and the only official Semitic and Afro-Asiatic language of the European Union. Maltese is a latinised variety of spoken historical Arabic through its descent from Siculo-Arabic, which developed as a Maghrebi Arabic dialect in the Emirate of Sicily between 831 and 1091. As a result of the Norman invasion of Malta and the subsequent re-Christianisation of the islands, Maltese evolved independently of Classical Arabic in a gradual process of latinisation. ''Lettre International'' is the title of a number of cultural magazines published in various languages in Europe. The history of ''Lettre International'' dates back to 1984, the year that the original French edition (''Lettre Internationale'') first came out. Publication of the French magazine ceased in 1993. The Jaipur Literature Festival, or JLF, is an annual literary festival which takes place in the Indian city of Jaipur each year in the month of January. It was founded in 2006. It is the world's largest free literary festival. The Diggi Palace Hotel serves as the main venue of the festival, with sessions held in the Hall of Audience and throughout the gardens of the Diggi Palace in the city centre. The festival directors are the writers Namita Gokhale and William Dalrymple and is produced by Sanjoy Roy of Teamwork Arts. Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award
The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award ( sv, Litteraturpriset till Astrid Lindgrens minne) is an international children's literary award established by the Swedish government in 2002 to honour the Swedish children's author Astrid Lindgren (1907–2002). The prize is five million SEK, making it the richest award in children's literature and one of the richest literary prizes in the world. The annual cost of 10 million SEK (in 2008) is financed with tax money.
