Clanville
Clanville is a hamlet in the civil parish of Penton Grafton in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England. The hamlet lies within the North Downs Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Hampshire- Wiltshire border. Its nearest town is Andover, which lies approximately 5.6 miles (9.1 km) south-east from the village. Clanville has a village pub, the Lion, and a village hall, known as the Coronation Hall, which dates from 1953. The former St Margaret's Chapel dates from c1860 and is now a private residence. Clanville House is a Grade II* listed mansion, dating from the early 18th century. Blissamore Hall is a modernised stately home, with parts dating from the 17th century. An earlier manor on the site is listed in the 1086 Domesday Book. Also known as Clanville Lodge, its former residents include General Edward Mathew, and the High Sheriff of Hampshire, Henry Bosanquet. Christopher Bland
Sir Francis Christopher Buchan Bland (29 May 1938 – 28 January 2017) was a British businessman and politician. He was deputy chairman of the Independent Television Authority (1972), which was renamed the Independent Broadcasting Authority in the same year, and chairman of London Weekend Television (1984) and of the Board of Governors of the BBC (1996 to 2001), when he took up a position as chairman of British Telecommunications plc (BT). Edward Mathew
Edward Mathew (1729 – 25 December 1805) began his military career in the British Army as a commissioned officer. By the time of the American Revolutionary War he had risen to the rank of colonel. Promoted to brigadier general, he was assigned to command the elite Brigade of Guards in the American campaign. In 1776 he led the Guards at Long Island, Battle of Kip's Bay, Kip's Bay, and Battle of Fort Washington, Fort Washington where he spearheaded one of the assault forces. In the Philadelphia Campaign, he commanded his brigade at Battle of Brandywine, Brandywine, Battle of Germantown, Germantown, Battle of White Marsh, White Marsh, and Battle of Monmouth, Monmouth. Test Valley
Test Valley is a local government district and borough in Hampshire, England, named after the valley of the River Test. Its council is based in Andover. The borough was formed on 1 April 1974 by a merger of the boroughs of Andover and Romsey, along with Andover Rural District and Romsey and Stockbridge Rural District.
