Claneus
Claneus or Klaneos or Klaneous ( grc, Κλάνεος or Κλανεοῦς) was an ancient city and bishopric in Asia Minor. Its site is tentatively located near , Yunak, Turkey. Claneus was in the Roman province of either Phrygia Salutaris or Galatia Secunda. Ecclesiastical history Claneus became a suffragan bishopric of the Metropolitan of Pessinus, in Galatia Salutaris (erected 398). When Amorium, its former fellow suffragan of Pessinus, became a Metropolitan see in the ninth century, Claneus became its suffragan. Amorium was a city in Phrygia, Asia Minor which was founded in the Hellenistic period, flourished under the Byzantine Empire, and declined after the Arab sack of 838. It was situated on the Byzantine military road from Constantinople to Cilicia.M. Pessinus ( el, Πεσσινούς or Πισσινούς) was an Ancient city and archbishopric in Asia Minor, a geographical area roughly covering modern Anatolia (Asian Turkey). The site of the city is now the modern Turkish village of Ballıhisar, in a tributary valley of the Sakarya River on the high Anatolian plateau at 950 m above sea level, 13 km from the small town of Sivrihisar. The ''Notitiae Episcopatuum'' (singular: ''Notitia Episcopatuum'') are official documents that furnish Eastern countries the list and hierarchical rank of the metropolitan and suffragan bishoprics of a church. In the Roman Church (the -mostly Latin Rite- 'Western Patriarchate' of Rome), archbishops and bishops were classed according to the seniority of their consecration, and in Africa according to their age.
