Clamtones
Clamtones was an American folk rock group, and Jeffrey Frederick's most notable band. Most of the band's lineup also performed with The Holy Modal Rounders at one point. Biography Although songwriter and musician, Jeffrey Frederick, organized his first Clamtones band in Vermont during the early 1970s, the best-known incarnation of the band was based out of Portland, Oregon. The Clamtones usually comprised Frederick (vocals and guitar); Jill Gross (vocals); Robin Remaily (mandolin, fiddle, guitar, other strings); Richard Tyler (piano); Dave Reisch (bass); Teddy Deane (woodwinds and horns); and Roger North (drums). As the Clamtones, Gross, Reisch and Remaily joined Frederick, Peter Stampfel, Michael Hurley and friends on the 1976 ''Have Moicy!'' (Rounder Records). However, the definitive studio recording of the full band was the following year's ''Spiders In The Moonlight''. Jeffrey Frederick
Jeffrey Sutton Frederick (1950–1997) was a songwriter, guitarist and performer specializing in good-time Americana (music), Americana music—an idiosyncratic blend of folk music, folk, country music, country and rock and roll. He was a largely uncredited predecessor of today's alternative country music genre. Also notorious for his pranks, he was a prodigious songwriter, specializing in sly, hilarious and soulful pieces. Frederick's tightly crafted songs and intricate guitar work were praised by the likes of Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, and Dan Hicks (singer), Dan Hicks. His songs are being featured in a series of tribute albums, starting with ''St. Jeffrey's Day: The Songs of Jeffrey Frederick, Volume I'' (2008). ''Have Moicy!'' is a 1976 album released by Michael Hurley, The Unholy Modal Rounders, and Jeffrey Frederick & the Clamtones. In 2011 Light In The Attic Records reissued ''Have Moicy!'' on vinyl. It is difficult to give credit to which band performs on which song because there are no credits to the individual groups. Michael Hurley (musician)
Michael Hurley (born December 20, 1941) is an American folk singer-songwriter who was essential to the Greenwich Village folk music scene of the 1960s and 1970s. In addition to playing a wide variety of instruments, Hurley is also a cartoonist and a painter. Hurley's music has been described as "outsider folk". Career He was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. Before starting his recording career Hurley contracted mononucleosis and needed to wait several years until he could sign to a record label. Hurley's debut album, ''First Songs'', was recorded for Folkways Records in 1963, on the same reel-to-reel machine that taped ''Lead Belly's Last Sessions''. He was discovered by blues and jazz historian Frederick Ramsey III, and subsequently championed by boyhood friend Jesse Colin Young, who released his second and third albums on The Youngbloods' Warner Bros. imprint, Raccoon. Peter Stampfel (born October 29, 1938, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin) is an American fiddle player, old-time musician, and singer-songwriter. Stampfel is best known as a member of the Holy Modal Rounders, a psychedelic folk band that he founded with Steve Weber in the early 1960s. He was also briefly a member of the Fugs and has been the leader of several musical projects, including the Bottlecaps, the Du-Tels, and the WORM All-Stars.
