Claire Vanhonnacker (Waregem, 17 October 1953 – Buggenhout, 8 November 1992), also known by her artist name Claire, was a Belgian singer. She is best known for her Dutch interpretation of Larry Weiss’ Rhinestone Cowboy as ‘Vreemde Vogels’ and ‘Op de purp’re hei’. Waregem (; vls, Woaregem), sometimes known as Waereghem, is a municipality and city located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality lies in the valley of the river Leie, between Kortrijk and Ghent. Buggenhout () is a municipality in the Belgian province of East Flanders in the Denderstreek. The municipality comprises the towns of Buggenhout proper, Briel, Opdorp, and . In 2021, Buggenhout had a total population of 14,689. The total area is 25.25 square kilometres. Buggenhout is also known for its forest, the "Buggenhoutbos", which is the largest forest of East Flanders. The geographic centre of Flanders lies in Opdorp. "Rhinestone Cowboy" is a song written by Larry Weiss and recorded by American country music singer Glen Campbell. When released on May 26, 1975, as the lead single and title track from his album ''Rhinestone Cowboy'', it enjoyed huge popularity with both country and pop audiences. Background and writing Weiss wrote and recorded "Rhinestone Cowboy" in 1974, and it appeared on his 20th Century Records album ''Black and Blue Suite''. It did not, however, have much of a commercial impact as a single, although peaked at number 71 in Australia in August 1974. In late 1974, Campbell heard the song on the radio and, during a tour of Australia, decided to learn it.
