Claire Trevor School Of The Arts
The Claire Trevor School of the Arts (CTSA, Claire Trevor) is an faculty (division), academic unit at the University of California, Irvine, focused on the performing arts, performing and visual arts. The four departments housed in the school are for art, dance, drama, and music. CTSA has undergraduate programs, masters programs, and a doctoral program in drama conducted jointly with UC San Diego. Architecture and history The school was named in honor of Academy Award-winning Hollywood film actress, actress Claire Trevor (1910–2000), a longtime resident of nearby Newport Beach and the stepmother of UCI benefactor Donald Bren. Brutalist Architecture
Brutalist architecture is an architectural style that emerged during the 1950s in the United Kingdom, among the reconstruction projects of the post-war era. Brutalist buildings are characterised by minimalist constructions that showcase the bare building materials and structural elements over decorative design. The style commonly makes use of exposed, unpainted concrete or brick, angular geometric shapes and a predominantly monochrome colour palette; other materials, such as steel, timber, and glass, are also featured. Descending from the modernist movement, Brutalism is said to be a reaction against the nostalgia of architecture in the 1940s. Glenn Akira Kaino (born 1972 in Los Angeles) is an American conceptual artist based in Los Angeles. ''Shoot'' was a 1971 performance by Chris Burden in which he arranged to have himself non-lethally shot. It is the artist's most infamous performance. Description On November 19, 1971, at the F-Space gallery in Santa Ana, California, a friend raised a .22-caliber rifle at a distance of 15 feet from the artist Chris Burden and shot his left shoulder. The performance was documented in an eight-second video on 16mm film and photographs. There was a small audience for the performance, including the videographer and photographer. The work was later presented through documentary photographs and text from Burden. Analysis Burden has said that the performance came from the common folklore and televisual motif of getting shot in America, whether real or faked, without knowing how it actually felt. Jerzy Grotowski
Jerzy Marian Grotowski (; 11 August 1933 – 14 January 1999) was a Polish theatre director and theorist whose innovative approaches to acting, training and theatrical production have significantly influenced theatre today. He was born in Rzeszów, in southeastern Poland, in 1933 and studied acting and directing at the Ludwik Solski Academy of Dramatic Arts in Kraków and Russian Academy of Theatre Arts in Moscow.
